No hassle BP ordering?

Post by awp101 »

My shooting bud and I have been well and truly bitten by the BP bug. The subs are OK but we want to shoot the real stuff but here's the problem...so far we have not found anyone locally that carries it and the online suppliers have a 25 can minimum (which ain't gonna happen at ~$20/can) OR there's outrageous HAZMAT fees involved.

Any ideas? :(

Thanks!

Grafs will ship you one pound if thats all you want. You can also mix and match brands. The sell Goex, Swiss, and their own house brand which is said to be nothing more than Schuetzen in a different bottle. Their price includes freight, But the 20$ hazmat is still going to apply, so order at least 5 lbs to offset that a bit. 5 lbs of powder really won't last very long, even shooting handgun cartridges.
Powder Inc sells Goex, Swiss, and Kik, but you have to order in 5,10,20 or 25 lb lots, the hazmat and shipping is figured into the price.

Thanks, we have names now so that's a start!

In between his message to me and my posting this he sent an update that a semi-local (if you can call the far side of the neighboring county local) might sell BP and it looks like you can order GOEX from the tannerite website as well.

There's a faint ray of hope it appears...

I used to order from Coonies IIRC. I'd say it pays to bite the bullet and buy it by the case if need be, Just get more friend in on the deal. You'd be surprise how fast that stuff goes away once you start shootin regular with it.

Make your own - since you might have to, if a Obamination occurs.

"Blackpowder is a mixture of 76% Potassium Nitrate (Saltpeter, KNO3), 14% Charcoal (Carbon, C), and 10% Sulfur (S)."

"These were roughly the percentages, by weight, used by the U.S. Military in the mid 1800s. Sodium nitrate has been used in times past in place of the potassium nitrate.
The ratio of the blackpowder formula has changed significantly over the years.
Older English powder was 66.6 % / 22.3% / 11.1%, as made back in the mid 1300's.
The mid 1600 French recipe was 75.6% / 13.6% / 10.8%."

I usually order 5 pounds at a time from http://www.powderinc.com

Occasionally I will get it from Graf and son if I'm after a smaller amount, but in the end I usually regret not buying more from Powder Inc.

Thanks again all!

He found some at the place abaout as far away from us as you can get and still be in the "Metroplex" but it's the same price as Powder Inc AND the cost of gas would have to be figured in...
