Japanese Assassin's Gun
Note the screw-on breech caps .. just like that .50 BMG rifle that some folks think is such a deal.

Now the question is where did he find shotgun shells?

Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
From other sources, appears to be black powder, either home made, or salvaged from fireworks.

Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
.
I haven't looked at it recently but there is a YouTube channel I think of a guy named Royal Nonesuch or something like that where he builds functioning firearms. He makes some interesting little 12 gauge single shots just using nothing but bolts and nuts and pipe. As I understand it it's perfectly legal as long as you don't sell those or across state lines with them.
He has made some 9 mm firearms that functioned, although I think the much higher chamber pressure involved means he actually uses salvaged commercial barrels even though he makes the actions himself.

Isn't China Joe Biden an advocate for the double barrelled shotgun?
Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
Zip guns are as old as firearms. Maybe the first firearms.
Ten minutes in Home Depot and a couple of hours work with everyday hand tools could result in a multi shot easily concealed weapon. No gun powder required.

Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
We never got up the nerve to shoot one from hand or shoulder, but I and my nerd buddies in high school built guns almost identical in operation to that one --- in 1968. A pipe, a pipe cap with a hole drilled, some wire, a pinch of steel wool, a battery, some black powder. I would say it's not rocket science, but I guess it is. No malicious intent, mind you. Just curiosity and boyish enthusiasm. We built a cannon with about a 2-inch bore and, believe it or not, had the sense to do the first testfire with powder and wadding only.
This firing was accomplished in a lightly-populated part of the county on a piece of land owned by the dad of one of the intrepid ballisticians. We charged the gun with probably 4 ounces of powder followed by copious cardboard wadding, backed off to where my car was parked, did a countdown, and touched wires to the poles of the car battery. The blast split the sky like the crack of doom, and while our ears were still ringing we could hear a siren approaching in the distance.
We made haste and escaped actual arrest, but in the coming weeks we were pretty uncomfortable as the Sheriff, husband of one of our teachers, pretty well figured out who had done it. Fortunately, our only crime was stupidity, and we and he were content to let it go at that.

Hell, we made "potato" guns powered by hairspray. They would launch an arrow clean thru 2 car doors from 25 yards

Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
That's a hellava zip gun.
I've seen similar in prison but they were not electronic ignition.

That settles it, Japan needs to ban black electrical tape!
Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
Nope, just batteries or electricity in general. Yep kill the entire electrical grid and ship all those assault batteries to china.

A few weeks back, Jim sent one of his lovely messages that made the telling point that, in the standoff between David and Goliath, David -- not his sling and stone -- was the weapon God chose to preserve the Israelites from the Philistines.

Re: Japanese Assassin's Gun
Guessing maybe there's no problem buying fireworks in Japan? So maybe he got the powder by disassembling fireworks until he had enough to work for this "gun"?
