Winchester Model 88

Post by baldcavalier »

Hello All,

I've come to pick your brains. A friend owns a Winchester Model 88 chambered in .308 Win. Serial number 339XX. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured and if it has any "special" value?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg, I can't answer your question about the serial number of said gun. I do like '88's though and I price them at Gunbroker fairly often. It seems it is always the 308 ones that I see. I think they are the most common variety. If you found one in 284 Win, that would be something! I think they may also have been made in 358 Win, but I am not sure. Someone more knowledgable will hopefully be able to answer your question soon.

Looks like that should have been made early in 57'. Value depends of course on condition and 308 is usually what you see most around here.

With a 5 digit ser.# - it is an early model - certainly pre-64

According to http://armscollectors.com/sn/winlookup.php "The year of manufacture for serial number 33900 is 1956"...

Thanks again for your help and the links. Looks like his rifle is just a bit older than me
