Resting easier already after UPS dropped off this C&R Marlin Model 336A in .35 Remington, built in the year 1950. Harry Truman was president, God bless that man.
Except for a new replacement buttplate, it is unmolested. Oh it has bluing wear, a nick and scratch or two and a bit of pitting in the left upper receiver -- but then so do I and I am three years younger.
I'll add a receiver sight and probably change out the front sight so I can see the danged thing, but other than that, no changes. Found some brass and have the Lee C358-200 mold and Pacesetter dies incoming.

Congratulations and you've got there a rifle that yes I'd like to have very much, but actually could use the most. I got a 336 in 30-30, 20" barrel, I love it, but that there in that configuration and caliber is for these mountains what a Mod 71 is in the west for Mule Deer & Elk. Used to be several 336 in 35 Rem, but they're either gone or in permanent possession! I never did see one in a 24" barrel around here tho

Thanks fellas. Pleased to be the caretaker for a while.
Vic - not just a waffletop, but it hasn't been drilled and tapped -- nor will it be in my custody.
Way cool!
My .35s got caught up in the "Purge" of '16 and was on the hunt to find another when you hooked me up with your friend and the Swede.
I was all worried that I'd sold off my ammo and components I ran down to the basement to check. Found about 500 rounds nicely packed away in a couple of .50 cal steel cans. Along with some empty brass and lots of bullets, I'm ready to go shooting as soon as it's not 20 degrees outside.
Have fun and looking forward to a range report!

That is great and congratulations on a fine old Marlin! Another old Ballard rifled 35 lives on to make meat in the hands of someone who appreciates its character.
I could hunt with no other rifle than my 55 Texan, for the rest of my days. and be just fine with it.
People were smarter before the Internet, or imbeciles were harder to notice.
Fine lookin' rifle there Bill. Yes indeedy! Uh... didn't you already own that very rifle once before?
This year I'm going to try my trusty 336A on our 500 yard game we do at our range. Hoping those 205 grain Lees will get to 500 yards before I run out of elevation on the old receiver sight.

Earl, it was coon-fingering your 336As in .30 WCF and .35 Remington (as well as I can remember) in a parking lot in Redmond that planted the bug. And yes, I had one a couple of years back -- a 1951 -- and cannot 'splain why I parted with it. But I am in communication with the gentleman who bought it, and he in fact supplied me with 48 pieces of new brass.
Please let us know how you do with your rifle at 500 yards at the COSSA range!
Rather than try to hunt up an old steel Lyman 66LA, I ordered the Williams FoolProof and a Firesight for up front, in the belief that this will allow me to do my best possible work with this rifle.

Bill,
FWIW, the Williams Firesight really lights up. I had one on my Marlin 30-30 CB. It gets damaged real easy, so be careful with leaning the rifle against anything.
