I get fed up with all the stupid Christmas movies this time of year but have just finished watching one of my favourite John Wayne movies and a Christmas movie too.

I've been remiss....I shall have to look that one up.
How about the Krampus? That's certainly not a nice movie.

Yeah, that's a good 'un. I've got it on DVD around here somewhere. One of the boys got a set of the Duke's old B movies too. They are entertaining.

I watched Donavon's reef last weekend. Lee Marvin and John Wayne, what could be better!
I got a kick out of Lee Marvins name in the movie.

Re: Christmas Movie ( Western )
I rented Old Henry tonight...not bad! I liked it, and generally agree with the industry rating of about 7.7 out of 10.
I don't want to give anything away, but found it interesting that a few characters were using double action pistols, including the protagonist. In researching, it seems that these were introduced during the 1870's and 1880's, and gained pretty wide acceptance relatively quickly (movie set in 1906). Can anyone tell me the make and models of the pistols used? From reading, it seems that a number of the DA models utilized a swing out cylinder or top break action. Yet the movie guns all seemed to be side loading. Were these Colt Lightnings?

Alnitak, an interesting video on the Colt double action 1877.

Thanks Gamekeeper...very interesting. I will have to go look at the movie again and freeze some frames, and I don't remember the grip and frame configuration looking like the Colt. Given movie "poetic license" I suspect they used later model guns.

I remember when my hunting uncle and his first wife snuck me into the old calhoun theatre on noble street to see it. The roar of the audience when Books shot boone and o'brian was deafening as if they'd been wanting to shoot paladin and earp themselves during all of those years of syndicated re-runs.

Thanks Ray!
That tribute by Harry Carey Jr. was an excellent video! And I agree on his statement that John Wayne should have gotten a nomination for The Shootist too! It's on my top 5 list of John Wayne movies for me!

Yep, John Wayne sure made a lot of great Westerns, for me "Stagecoach" 1939 was and still is one of my all-time favourite movies.
Actually watched the movie while crossing Monument Valley in a tourist bus...

Re: Christmas Movie ( Western )
There was an earlier version with Walter Brennan. It looks like it may be just as good or better.

Try Will Penny, Charlton Heston in a western in line camp in Christmas season.
