Re: 44 mag accuracy ??
Same with most loads. Haven't seen anything yet I thought was terrible including 300s in my Marlin that many say won't stabilize. Seen a few groups around 1.5.
Re: 44 mag accuracy ??
In the 80s I had a used 1894 Marlin 44 Mag that was just about hopeless. It only saw factory ammo while I owned it. After much trial and error I finally got it under 3" at 50 yards with, IIRC Federal 180 JHP. By comparison, I had a SMLE Jungle Carbine I could shoot that well at twice the distance. I sent that 1894 down the road and have never regretted it.
In the interim I have owned or shot a half dozen Winchester Trappers or 92 Rossis in various revolver calibers. Any of them would keep three shots in 2-3 inches at 100 yards and some would halve that. That includes 325-335 grain heavy loads in 45 Colt. All the rifles mentioned here were used with iron sights.
I do replace Rossi sights straight away. They are too coarse for good accuracy, they sometimes won't zero and the steps on the sight elevator are flat, causing them to jump a step under the recoil of heavy loads.

In my Marlin 1894SS, with a Burris 2x-7x scope, I use the Speer 270gr JSP and 21.5gr H110.
I can get 3 shot cloverleafs at 100 yds.
This rifle and handload combination have been very effective on whitetail deer.
