Re: Windows 11
I did.
Don't see a huge difference.
Several changes are attempts to be more Apple-like.
You can Google and find help to change things the way you want them (us old dudes don't like change)
It did erase all my Office apps.
I had to dig out my CDs and reinstall it all.
It's an unsubtle attempt to force you to use Office 365 by paying an annual fee.

Which is precisely why I use LibreOffice instead.
As to the original inquiry, I've still not made up my mind on that one, still digging for info - occasionally. Not in a hurry either.

Re: Windows 11
my boxes don't have the pre-requisite chips, which have to do with encryption i think.
we don't HAVE TO switch because there is supposed to be a long life for 10 because of the legacy boxes.
i use libreoffice and have no trouble editing anything hatched on a msft application, yet.
i plan to switch my boxes back to linux because i am tired of being owned by msft. they view their users as a commodity and try to bully people. like their notifications that there is something wrong with my browser choice, and my image software, and my search engine, etc.
i don't want to make any more money for them by being kenneled up in their stable.
i feel the same way about android. don't know what to do about that, maybe an iphone, idk.
p.s. if anyone wants to know more about their w10 installation, open up the firewall and take a look at what is pre-authorized. plus, you cannot get online without a msft connection to the trough, bypassing the vpn. or run wireshark for a while and look at the traffic you didn't ask for, etc.

Android vs iPhone is "which conglomerate owns my phone?" There used to me a Firefox Phone (IIRC) which was essentially a free software phone, but they were never made available here in Coffee Country, of course. In fact, haven't seen anything about them for a while. OK. Did a quick search and here's one article on the subject.

Paul, android = google = facebook= political tyranny.
apple "seems" to have a better respect for data privacy, but i don't "know" this yet.
i am thinking of getting a stupid flip phone and staying out of that whole vacuum . . .

Here's one article on why NOT to upgrade to Windows 11, at least not yet.

Re: Windows 11
Grizz, iPhone/Apple have their OWN bit of political tyranny. They've deleted Christian software off their store app many times. Not all, but anything they deem "not kosher according to leftwing agenda" tends to get the axe.

Yeah, I'm sure they are on their own side, and hate believers. It's the assurance of salvation. I'm not sold on apple, and since i have a spare samsung i may root it and see how linux runs. i am using it as a wifi tablet, and making phone calls via signal through a strongly encrypted tunnel makes mentioning "bombs" much less threatening . . .
besides which, these phones run fast on ethernet, which is easily done with a dongle, and can use a mouse on the phone, which is fun and eliminates key-clicks, an asset for the truly cautious !
Re: Windows 11
I will caution anyone considering upgrading to Windows 11 or buying a windows 11 machine that one of the "Features" of Windows 11 happens to ensure that if your motherboard or laptop or the CPU of them fails you will not be able to recover the data on the hard drive! They are insisting on full drive encryption and the key is stored in the CPU! This is amongst the reasons I am glad that MS is demanding that I throw away a modern fully functional PC and laptop in order to run this ahem BS. If you upgrade to 11 or buy a machine with it you need to be especially careful about having backups.
