Fell off the wagon today !
I’d laid off buying and actually had been liquidating . But I’ve also been on the look out for Parker 16 hammer and hammerless as well as a 20 hammerless all with 32” barrels. Someone messaged me yesterday on another forum and offered me a Parker DH 16 gauge with a 32” barrels on a rather rare (for a 16) #2 frame . Hopefully the gun will be in my hands next week by Friday or the following Monday . FWIW they only made about 60 DH/DHE 16’s with 32” barrels and it’s probably safe to assume 2/3’s to 3/4’s of them were on #1 frames . Well of course I have a three day refusal , but I’ve seen plenty pics , the Parker letter and the stock dimensions match my regular SxS competition guns . So I suspect if it makes it to me and UPS doesn’t screw up the guns found a new home .

Re: Fell off the wagon today !
The guy that’s selling it to me couldn’t tell me points of constriction in the barrels (my gauge will measure it upon arrival) . But judging by the thickness of the barrels at the muzzle end it’s safe to assume it’ll be tight . Very good for reaching targets , little less than optimum for the closer ones . But that’s part of the game shooting vintage events .

I think that if I could only have one shotgun that Parker 16 gauge would cover all my needs for a scattergun. Always liked the 16 as a all rounder....

My shotgun taste is pure hillbilly; whatever Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 I get a good deal on, with a magazine as long as the barrel. Maybe splurge on a Saiga. Dream of a Benelli.
HOWEVER - a gun like that Parker could just about turn me around....! NICE find.

Very nice. I dont have alot of knowledge on Parkers, but I would think any shotgun with a 32" barrel the choke would be at least FULL.

I shoot hammer and hammerless in 10 , 12 and 16 as well as hammerless in 20 , 28 and 410 . All those guns are M&F or F&F . And I usually do pretty well in each event at the vintage shoots .horsesoldier03 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:27 pm Very nice. Hey 6pt! I have that exact same buttplate on a Rolling Block Sporting Rifle I built! A friend gave it to me, and had no idea what it was taken from? Gotta be from the same gun as yours as it's identical in every way!6pt-sika wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:54 pm I’d laid off buying and actually had been liquidating . You could order skeleton buttplates on any grade but they were standard on D grades and above . I’ve got a lower GH grade 12 gauge with a skeleton plate that letters to the gun but of course it has less engraving than these plates .marlinman93 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 28, 2021 3:30 pmHey 6pt! Re: Fell off the wagon today !
Few pics after I arrived at home ! Tried two shells on high flying tree limbs with satisfying results . This gun is quite thick in the chamber end of the barrels and the muzzle end is far from paper thin

Very nice I like the top lever position when closed too, must be well on the face.

Re: Fell off the wagon today !
Yes I noticed that when I put it together slightly right of center , almost always a good sign . I think later today I’ll get the micrometer bore gauge out and see how much constriction are in both barrels , very thick at the muzzle so I suspect they should be 25 points or more atleast . But the proof will be Thursday whether I can break targets with it or not hit my backside with both handsgamekeeper wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 6:02 am Very nice I like the top lever position when closed too, must be well on the face.

Re: Fell off the wagon today !
I bought a bore micrometer from a gentleman on another forum two or so months ago and now have arbors for 10 , 12 , 16 and 20 . The thing was made by “100 Straight Products” in Sturgis SD . Anyway I just measured the bore and choke in both my present Parker VH 16 gauge 30” and this new to me Parker DH 16 gauge 32” . Amazingly nominal bore diameter in all four barrels measured .665” ! The VH has 30 points in the right and 35 in the left while the DH has 40 points in both barrels . That gun if I’m able to do my part should roll targets up at a pretty decent distance and of course I’ll need to pay attention in close LOL’s !

40 thou in both barrels!! Any targets you hit are gonna be puffs of smoke- satisfying to smoke em.
Thats a trap/pigeon gun for sure!

It’s 1 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 14 1/2 if memory serves . It’s stocked a skoosh higher than the gun I shot pigeons with this summer .

Re: Fell off the wagon today !
I shot the DH 16 32” 2 frame today and yes I can break targets with it . But I can’t play around with it , it’s choked tight enough that the A Game is needed especially on close ones . Anyway it’s staying for a few years unless of course they need to plant me . Now if I could find a VH/VHE or DH/DHE 20 gauge 32” F&F on a 1 frame dare I say with 2 7/8” chambers . But an 0 frame would be fine as well . Oh yeah failed to mention the 16 32” letters with factory cut 2 7/8” chambers which I find very odd .

Re: Fell off the wagon today !
Me thinks that’s the same one they’ve been trying to sell for a couple years now . Think it was listed on GunsInternational for something like 70K and it was at one of the big auctions houses atleast one other time in the last 18 months . Don’t get me wrong I’d love to have it but I’m pretty sure the reserve is going to be maybe double the starting bid . I can’t afford the starting bid so you know the reserves out of the question .hfcable wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 2:53 pm this is what you really need:

i remember back in '88 when the market crashed on 'black thursday' and every one panicked , and about that time the estate of the former preesident of parker collectors association, came up at auctions. [ / Herzog , might have been his name /] anyway, his mint condition high grade 8 gauge, went begging and i think sold for less than 4000$
i wanted it badly but my spouse at that time would have divorced me. considering that we got divorced later anyway, i should have bought the parker.
