Colt SAA 44-40 for 1873 Winchester SRC.

I picked up a nice 3rd generation Colt SAA in 44-40 to go with my 1873 Winchester SRC. I have a couple of 1st generations, but just don't seem to be able to take them out of the showcase and hunt with them. By the way the rig is made by "Old West Reproductions" maker R.M. Bachman. I don't carry them together that often unless I'm hog hunting. I love to hunt coyotes and hogs with older levers as some of you might have read in a previous thread. I also hunt deer the same way sometimes. I do use modern guns also. But when it comes to big hogs, I like a revolver back up. I'm not as agile as I once was and getting up a tree with a rifle is a bit more difficult. I don't throw the nice rifles down I lay them down.

It does not happen that often these days on my lease, but on my previous lease outside of Wichita Falls, Texas the hogs were big and mean. I have only run into a couple of over 300 pounds on my present lease in 5 years.

The Colt doesn't go at all, too new. It looks just like my 44 Spl. better just send it to me since it matches.

Old Savage, yes I know but I plan on wearing it down a bit if I live long enough.

A little holster time, and the leather'll be soft and supple, and the bluin' will start disappearin' from that Colt.

This one I have was originaly sent to the copper queen mine in bisbee, ariz in january 1906 in 4 3/4" 44wcf. Later, old gun writer tommy bish had it converted to .44 special by I belive, king gun works. I have had it for almost 40 years now.

Here is another of it when I once tried a 4" barrel and shortened ejector on it. It wasnt practable as it wouldnt kick out empty cases and I had it put back original. I own 4 colt SAs.

I am happy to say it shot great. I'm lucky all my fixed sight SAA have shot great. One of my clones had to have the front sight bent and filed by me a little, but that is it. This may be the last keeper that I test. I just don't know of any more Colt SAA or Winchesters Levers that I need. Oh, I know I will buy or trade for some others, but It will be for resale or something special.

In fact I'm going to San Antonio for a gun show this weekend. Who knows I might find a bargain.

Hard to beat tried & true combo like that!! That wood on your SRC is identical to the wood on mine..Buttstock tho has two notches filed in it near the toe...Mine's circa 1889
