Win94 Legacy 44mag - 1st range session

Post by meanc »

I've had this for a few weeks now, but just found enough time during my lunch hour to get out and shoot it. It was a perfect day for shooting.

These are my handloads of 19.5gr of 2400 / .430" Remington 240gr JSP.

Target on the right is @ 50yds and shows my first eight shots. It was just shooting a bit to the right, but I got it perfect.

Then I got that nice little cluster under the bullseye... 5 shots!!!

Target on the left is @ 100yds and shows my last seven shots.

I had the rear sight sitting on the highest step, but apparently that was way more than was needed. I was also surprised that it shot that much left.

So I adjusted the windage back to just half the distance I initially moved it at 50yds. And I lowered the elevator back to just one step over what I had at the 50yd line.

Amazingly it did the trick, and I got that nice 3 shot group.

I elevated it just one more step higher and shot the last one almost dead center. After that I packed up and headed home.

Seems like my 24" barrels do allow a little more accuracy w/ iron sights over my shorter barrels.

All in all a very nice range session.

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen.

That 3" bullseye looked like a flea at 100yds, but luckily it was a sunny day and stood out pretty well for me.

I just measured the last group at 100yds and it came out to a hair under 1.5" center to center. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be scoping it anytime soon.

I also just did a few dry fires with my 45colt Legacy and 1894 CB LTD 45colt. This one actually has a much lighter and crisper trigger than the other Legacy and is as good as the Marlin.

I think maybe the CAS shooter I bought it from had a little work done on it.
