Tried to search without success, as it brought up every mention of ACP.
There is a dang little Savage Model 1917 at the LGS calling my name, although it hasn't a speck of bluing left and one grip panel is cracked. Maybe I am the one who is cracked ...
I recently came into possession of a nice Colt pocket hammerless in .32ACP. I haven't shot it yet as I don't have any ammo. I had a few boxes kicking around, but gave it to my middle son a few years ago for a 32 he was playing with.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
The only two .32 ACPs I ever shot were a fully auto Scorpion and a Nazi marked PPK that was surprisingly accurate.
A few questions were asked after I shot the Scorpion in the woods ....
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.
The problem right now is finding components or ammo for one. I've loaded the round in the past and may well do so in the future. Opted for the 380 ACP over the 32 ACP last time I was thinking on one, but the 7.65 mm Browning round has its charms. Now that I'm loading for 32's again I'll give it another look - if brass comes available again. Folks seem to like it in the tiny pocket pistols, but I'd like to get something a bit bigger, kind of a 22 plinking pistol on steroids. It's all hypothetical at this point though. We'll see what happens next time north.

One of our club members used to have one. Never got to play with it any though. Ammo's scarce and expensive in Coffee Country. The yearly paperwork to possess such a toy puts me off them. I'd rather have the CZ75 select fire as it'd be the same paperwork but ammo and cost thereof would be easier to find and less expensive here.

I've had an Astra "Constable" 7.65 for many years. It's a medium-sized DA auto much like a Walther and obviously inspired by the PP/PPK. Don't shoot it much any more because of the cost and scarcity of ammo, but shot it quite a bit in the past, and found it very accurate, especially in SA mode. I remember plinking Idaho "gophers" with it one afternoon after I got my limit of trout, using W/W "Silvertip" hollowpoints at about 15 yards, all head shots (and some misses).
Many small autos jam with anything but the RN hardball, but this Spanish job eats anything including cast boolits, as long as they are hot enough to function the blowback acion. It was made, according to the date code, in 1970. Got it slightly used, in box w/spare mag.
Those are great and tough little pistols. How Much?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

Second that. I've had a few of them that I've picked up at local auctions cheap. Neat pistols and surprisingly accurate. I'd take them to the Ohio Gun Collector's shows and usually double my money on them. I had one that was nearly perfect that I should have kept, but it just wasn't what I was into in those days.
I have one of the recent Beretta Model 81 imports right now. If you can find .32 ACPs it's going to be pricey. I had a couple hundred rounds and finally found some spare magazines. Mostly for fun, but it would make a decent trail gun if you don't need to worry about anything big and toothy!

I used to have a sweet little colt 1903 but traded it away. Still have a seecamp but haven't taken it out of the safe in years. My Father in law who was a WWII and Korean War Army Sgt convinced my wife the 32acp is all she needs.
Used to have an itch for military pistols, still have a few. One is a CZ model 27, in 32 ACP with a Nazi mark. Got it for 100 at a gun show, a refin, fun to shoot, not real accurate, doesn't feed real good. Have 2 nice bringback baretta model 34s in 380, much better guns. Would love an 03 Colt in 380.

Bill, IF you bought it, I am 100% sure someone would be happy to buy it when the new wears off!

Have 3 Colt 1903s, 2 shooters and one that's got lots finish left so have left it in the safe. They are a very accurate with mild recoil and fit neatly into the hand and ride great in the front pocket of my pants.
there is no such thing as a miss if you still have ammo
Well, the little worn-out Savage Model of 1917 put a 10 - round magazine- full of PMC 60-grain hollow points in two inches at seven yards, and would have done much better if not for the 9 -pound trigger and the old fool pulling it.
Bill, I'm gonna disappear for 3 weeks so if you can keep it that long send me a message towards end of July. Now you need to try a 75-100 cast bullet .002-3 over groove diameter and see how that works! Todd/3leg
Also a 4 page topic over on Cast Boolits in the handgun section about the .32acp

Well, shoot, mebbe that group was a little bigger than two inches, but the pistol wants to snuggle them up despite a corroded bore and a corroded shooter.
Nice shooter! Looks like a ray gun, stylish and modern looking.
I tested some 32ACP ball ammo a while back on some hard mesquite, my preferred tree. This mesquite was 3 in across and flat on top, I was trying to "skip" that 32 off the top at a very shallow angle. The 32 penetrated every shot to my surprise and seemed more formidable than one might think.
I’ve had three. None had barrel specs that were anywhere near SAAMI. Accuracy was dismal. I can hit steel at 100 with a 38 spl 1 7/8” barrel and a 32 wcf 3” but none of the 32s would hit 10” at 20’. Gave my last one away.

I'm sure he meant well, but hopefully you can educate her otherwise...
A self-defense cartridge has to be adequate to STOP an attack, not just suggest they cease and desist...
If the defender is petite or unfamiliar with firearms, it may mean a challenge, but all the more reason for the cartridge in question to be adequate in case the shot placement is not perfect in aiming or timing.
Even as an experienced firearms owner and shooter, I'd hesitate to depend on the 32 ACP, although I would DEFINITELY like to mess with the cartridge and its guns just for fun.

Doc, the plan is to get her to the range and shoot my revolvers, then rent a s&w shield or similar to see what she likes. If she likes an auto she'll need one sprung to easily rack the slide.
If she insists on the 32, I'll look for one that will handle 32 mag.
I don't have a model 1917, but I did pic up a pair for 1907s a couple years ago at an auction. Have only fired them a couple of times, but found them to be plenty accurate at 10 yards without any hiccups. Neat little pistols. The Savage ads back then were quite creative. I tried their advertised slogan "10 shots quick", at 10 yards (see pic).

In the mid 1980s I carried a Walther PPK-S for a few years as a boot gun. I had to use it one night on the South side of Houston and three shots of .32 ACP Winchester Silvertips did the job every bit as well as a .45 would have with identical placement. Don't sell that cartridge short.

When the voice of experience speaks, Bill listens.
Have the voices told you to sell it me yet? !
Guess they did! I bought a few to many these last 10 days....

I'm not saying that it is a powerhouse, or that it can equal larger calibers. But, I found the .32 to be extremely accurate in that PPKS. The tiny sights were dead on and I played with it quite a bit.
Most shootings occur at extremely close range, in this one case that I am familiar with, the three shots were with the muzzle in contact with the deceased. Accuracy was not an issue, but the effectiveness of the cartridge for that purpose was more than adequate. (Snubby .38 Special revolvers are very good in this kind of rough and tumble fight.).
I have a sweet shooting FEG ( sort of PPK copy , slightly larger , with the aluminum frame) . A CZ 70 that has redicously heavy trigger , that I keep meaning to send to my semi- local smith who specializes in trigger work .
For really tiny , a NAA Guardian , that's actually too small for my hands .

I like .32acp , and actually prefer it to .380 acp .
