Stainless carbine, 44 mag.. no groups bought new May 07.. sent it too LSI service for help.. They put on a new barrel.. Again couldn't get any decent groups.. slugged bore.. .4335 groove to groove.. finally sent it to LSI's new service center in Nevada.. got it back today, and it's GROUPING!!!! tried some 240 factory Winchester and getting inch and a half groups at 50 yds.. I'm happy!.. don't give up on LSI.. they'll make it right.. Les

I bet one of the guns from the december shipment is now without a barrel. This has been an on going problem with the 44mag rossi's but they made some changes and everything that's come in since december has been correct.

LSI is on Longley Ln. just off of Virginia in Reno. Think I'll mosey on over there tomorrow & meet the folks as I will be in Reno tomorrow. You have to buy the guns from Sportsmans Warehouse which is just off Moana Ln. Great place to shop for new guns.

I am having the same problem. I have a 16in 44 mag. The bore sluggs at .4335. It will sling lead bullets sized to .431 more like grape shot. It does ok with jacketed but I really want to shoot lead. I think I will call LSI tomorrow and see about getting them to rebarrel it.

they must have had a bad run as the one i got from them
last sept shoots cast really well p/b or g/c.
as does the 357 i got just after jan this year.

Well my Rossi arrived at the LSI repair center yesterday. I don't know what the turn around time will be. I just hope they fix the barrel. I sent a slug of the barrel that measured .4335".

A customer of mine was describing problems he was having with his new Marlin 1894 Cowboy II in 44 mag. Seems that when the bullets hit the target (seldom), there were clear signs of tumbling. Curious. A call to Marlin informed him that they are using .432" bores to reduce pressure! Friends, that model will never shoot a typical .429-.430" bullet accurately. It just so happens that I had a similar problem years ago with a Remington Model 788 in 44 mag and had two custom moulds cut. Problem solved. My customer tells me the rifle now shoots "one ragged hole". These two NEI moulds, a 230 grain SWC-GC and a 240 grain SWC-GC, are made to size out at .433" and turned both of these guns into respectable shooters. Do you have an overbore 44?

Some knowledgeable Ruger handgun shooters have informed me that their (all?) Ruger 44's suffer from large cylinder throats. Instead of the .429-.430" throats that you might expect, their guns run up to .432". If you visit the FAQ section entitled, "How do I determine what size my bullets should be?", you'll understand that these guns need an appropriately sized bullet to shoot up to their potential. AJMD429: No, I haven't taken the time to slug it after getting it back.. I should do it for the information.. after getting GREAT groups at 100 yds, with factory jacketed soft points, I just took it to the Sandwich Islands and killed some stuff with it... Les

Well it is now week 7. I called Sports World and was told it has changed from no status to awaiting parts. So it is a good news bad news thing. Good because it sounds like they are going to change the barrel bad because I will probably have my house sold and moved to Memphis before they find a barrel.

Well it took 8 months. A lot of phone calls and one really upset off customer but I have a Puma 44 mag back in my possession. It is a new one as LSI finally conceded that they couldn't get parts and would have to replace the original. I slugged the bore and it is the correct size. I really hope it shoots.

It's a real shame they treated me so poorly. I would probably have purchased several more of these or the new ones made in Italy. But as it stands I will no longer do business with LSI. They took no interest in my problem and only when news of them no longer importing Rossi's was out, and me pressing them did they finally make an effort to resolve the situation. I even wrote the President a letter but it went unanswered.
