Apologies for sounding snippy, but we already have that, or 2/3 of it.

M-1 carbine (ignoring the engineering/operation differences) in 5.56 is the Ruger Mini-14. 7.62x39 is the Mini-30

Ruger's XGI project failed though.

yeah, i have all 3 on the theory that battlefield gleanings would be the richest source of ammo, if it comes to that . . .

Pretty slick design but behind the times in the 70s for a military design. Ingram should have shopped it to established gunmakers. If the bugs were worked out, it looks like it would be a terrific civilian rifle. Looks sleek and handy and efficiently sized for a autoloader

I have a 5.56 and a 7.62x39. One is an America's Rifle and one is a Ruger. Battlefield gleanings are possible.

I think Ian should have done a Glenn Beck marker board to show the extremely messy proposed manufacture of this firearm.

Anyway, my previous comment, G. Ingram should have been in contact with Ruger, they introduced the Mini-14 in '73, and that's essentially what this weapon was - although the Mini-14 works.

Still, interesting concept.

I shot the XGI that Peter Kokalis had back in the 1980s. I wish they could have worked the issues out. This one functioned just fine. However, I have gotten to the point that when you go up to a .308, I prefer a handy bolt gun.

I can see a use for a semi-auto in .243 or .308, especially on wild pig problems. Need has nothing to do with anything. For wild pigs, an M14 would be fun. Then again, so would a S.A.W.

Tom, that M14 looks great for about anything in North America. How accurate is it? I have heard that some are more accurate than normal.
