Colt Navy .22 conversion
Anouther one of my long ago projects ,revisiting maybe.
Started out as a cheap Peitta 1851 Navy.
Made from barstock a new style octagon barrel without loading lever cutout, bored and lined it with Marlin .22 barrel ,the forcing cone area of barrel is part of the liner making it a top hat press in fit.
Instead of wedge it uses a dowel screw to precisely line up the barrel consistently.Firing pin is rebounding and pinned to recoil shield spacer.
Used titanium to make cylinder top hat bushings and firing pin ,because I had a piece.Colt SAA backstop and grips.
Thinking of adding a ejector tube and loading gate,as I never did.Maybe do a different finish ,old Casey blue grey is not appealing anymore.

Oh yeah! I like that. I converted a Pietta 1860 Army with a Kirst cylinder and cut to 5 inches. Much less machining than what you did. I even cheated and used the milling machine to cut the loading channel instead of dremeling it.

Fascinating project. How did you line the cylinder?

Very cool project! Let us know how it shoot's when your finished.
Re: Colt Navy .22 conversion
It shoots great, this was done over 25 years ago ,I just never decided to add the ejector and gate .
For the cylinder I machined the ratchet /nipple area off which exposes the chambers.I just added a little c-bore and turned Top Hat style bushings for a size to size resistance fit .Pushed them in and reamed for finish .
I used titanium because I had a perfect sized piece of surgical drill rod a buddy give me.And it makes for beautiful finishes inside.
I had thought about adding the other parts sometime soon just always had some other project in the way.

Re: Colt Navy .22 conversion
EXTREMELY cool!
Re: Colt Navy .22 conversion
Thanks too all , biggest mistake. I made was titanium inserts as they wont color,at least back then didn't know of anything. Wished I would have used 4140 HTSR .
I want to do the ejector housing and loading gate I might try to polish and wire brush carding for a antique silver/grey look.

Re: Colt Navy .22 conversion
Sometimes the easiest solution is best......
SHOOT IT A LOT!!!
Those inserts will darken up nicely!
