Just humongous hyperbole.....
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Grizz, not to side track this thread, but you mentioned Hoonah or Tenakee in a different thread. Ive been there. Wished I had gotten off the ferry and spent a few days exploring.

Even Jack the Giant Killer would want a big gun for that one.

I've not explored around there. Ya kind of need a skiff to see much. I don't know if there is any lodging there. and i don't know if you can rent a vehicle to drive the log roads. where were you ferrying from or to?

used to fish for salmon around Hoonah, sell there sometimes. also worked on a log tug loading ships with export logs in that bay. thqt area is, or was, over run with trophy size brown bears.

near tenakee is where my FIL hunted deer every year. he flew in to a beach and set up his deer camp in the woods.

Went from Skagway to Juneau, then on to Sitka to visit my cousin. Then from Sitka to Prince Rupert.

nice trip. i have family in Sitka. southeast is my "home away from home" until i get to heaven.

love everything about southeast. im thinking about doing a little more commercial fishing if "stuff" lines up that way. try to relive my youth i suppose, in spite of the creaking and groaning that accompanies those efforts.  :D
