Dealin with the Prophylactic Grips

Post by JimT »

When I rebarreled the Model 10 S&W I had no grips for it. The prophylactic grips were a quick easy fix. Except that I don't like them. They are too fat for me .. they cover the backstrap and make the reach to the trigger further .. and I don't like them. Other than not liking them and the issues I have with them, they worked fine. I just didn't like them.

Looking at custom grips I did not want to spend a lot of money for grips. I mean, if I put a real nice set on it I will have to send the gun to someone and get it polished up and reblued and all that. So I ordered a set of factory round butt grips. The addition of the Tyler T-Grip adapter and the gun feels great in my hand. It points well. It hides under my shirt nicely. And as a friend said, it has a nice retro look. That probably fits me. I think I am retro.

I keep thinking I need to find some roundbutt grippystock thingies for my Model 10 HB. I like the look of those. I've a couple sets of grips, round to square butt and one set of ??? one piece grips that attach via a screw on the bottom of the butt. Neither are close to the Llama in fit or feel, which was my reason for obtaining the sixgun in the first place. Anyway, I like the look of those, should be much more compact that the ones on mine.

Jim.

I have an extra pair of the old S&W banana grips for a round butt K frame that would serve you well. If you want them, I'll box them up and send them to you. They would look good on that gun and they certainly are "retro."

Lookin' good! A round-butt K-frame with a T-grip -- the absolutely perfect combo for my hand.

I will take them if you don't need them.

Plenty good. No reason to make any changes to anything other than the grips.

I like the looks of those "banana grips" on that gun. Jim, that is impressive shooting if you ask me with the sights that gun comes with. I'm used to or prefer white outlined target rear sights: S&W red plastic insert on a ramp, gold bar, fiber optic, tritium front blah blah etc etc sights to help get me on target. That's impressive shooting with fixed sights.

I just do not have a fondness for any of the rubber grips.
Yes, I have used them. My hypocrisy knows no bounds.
But I don't like them.

If we all were the exact same, then we might all like the same grips. MAYBE!

Tyler T Grips are cool! They look vintage, and they make a small S&W grip feel much better in most guys hands. I love them, but don't see them around ever anymore.

I have placed orders in the past and received no response. I ended up searching e-Bay until the correct model appeared.

I bought the one shown in the first post a couple weeks ago.
I printed out the form.
Filled it out according the to directions.
Sent a check.
It came in the mail, no issues.

Thanks Jim! I had no idea Tyler T grips were still being made? Bookmarked the site!
And I've got their trigger shoes on several handguns, and love them for target work! Didn't know those were still around either?
