per Scott Tschirhart's Request .....
LIGHT
Light has matter.
Light has force.
Light has energy.
It can be measured.
Darkness is nothing but the absence of light.
Darkness cannot be measured.
Darkness has no force.
Darkness has no energy.
Darkness has no matter.
It is nothing to fear.
Light was designed for darkness.
Light is designed to dispel darkness.
Light does not fight darkness.
Light simply shines and darkness disappears!
Jesus said we - you and me - ARE the Light of the World.
Yes, He is THE LIGHT. But He is in us and because of that we can shine!
We are created to find the dark places and shine.
We are not designed to sit around in our Houses of Light and wait for darkness to come in and be converted.
We are to go to the dark places and shine.
Instead of doing that, we often meet with other light-bearers and talk about how much better our light is than those people down the street or across town.
We shine our lights in each others eyes and compare lights and argue which light is best.
That is not our purpose!
The smallest light is extremely bright in the very dark places.
We were in a cave, several hundred feet underground.
A quarter of a mile from the entrance.
We turned out our lights and stood there in silence for about a minute. (It seemed longer)
Then I pushed the light button on my wristwatch.
The little bitty light that lets you see the time.
It lit up the cave enough we could see each other's faces!
Don't worry if your light is bright enough.
Don't worry about the dark.
JUST SHINE!

Re: per Scott Tschirhart's Request .....
Thanks Jim,
But I was thinking more along the lines of this:
We were in the bush in the nation of Mozambique, far from a city and electricity. That night the sky was on fire with myrids of constellations and suns and planets. The Milky Way lit up the countryside! The sky was actually FULL of stars! It was astounding how bright the night sky full of stars is.
During the trip back to the city the men rode in the back of the pickup while the women were in the cab. I watched the stars the entire trip. Nearing the city I noticed something. The closer we approached man-made lighting the fewer stars could be seen. I knew this intellectually but experiencing it was a revelation to me. By the time we were in the city only very few of the brightest stars could be seen. And this city was not nearly as brightly lit as an American city. Many people who live in cities have never experienced what the night sky actually looks like. That's sad when you think about it. To live so far removed from what the Creator provided sounds like a prison to me.
Thinking about how the light of the stars faded the closer we approached man-made lighting I had the thought given to me: "The more man-made light we have, the less we see God's light!"
If we live, never having seen His light, we are imprisoned within our own intellect. How sad that would be, to never have experienced His light.
I do not mean religion. All to often religion is just differing degrees of darkness. No, I am speaking of an actual encounter with the Creator of everything. His name is Jesus and He is with you right now, whether you know it or believe it. All you have to do is talk to Him. You will find that He is actually there with you.

OH ... sorry.
I have written quite bit on the subject of "light" and thought you were referring to that one. But yes, that episode sticks in my mind as well. It was a profound revelation at the time that still applies.

Light shines. Light is an active force. Darkness does nothing, but it enhances fear and reduces the effectiveness of the human spirit. Light is positive, especially natural light. Darkness is negative.
