Just checking in.

Post by Nath »

So how's it going? The world is getting madder. I'm getting older and fatter, have a club foot from gout and was made redundant three weeks ago.
But that hasn't stopped my shooting!
I got me a cz457 in 22 and liked it so much I got a 457 in hmr also. Both rifles seem to shoot most brands of ammo exceptionally well.

Boy we have some squirrels this year.

Had this three legged fox eventually.
It had been taken chickens for weeks and was fat.
I use Federal 20gn bullets in the hmr. They are tough and penetrate well.

Resisting the urge to make smoke is futile.
Flint or cap it don't matter just as long as I get my fix.

Hope your all well.
Be glad when Gods kingdom arrives, it's getting crazy down here now.

Thank you all. I really want to hope 2021 will be an improvement but on reflection I doubt it.
Hope you all burn some powder now and then if for nothing else to just focus the mind.

Thanks for the kind words.

It snowed here today. Quite rare in these parts.
I got out first light to find a fox I've been fooling with for 3weeks.
I found it and got down to 100yds plus in heavy snow fall.
Heart shot it lept up in the air, ran 20 and folded up.

Nice! I have a .17 Win Super Mag. It was the .27 nail gun cartridge necked down to .17, and it comes in 26 grain or 20 grain. The 26 grain is about 27,000 fps. It takes out coyotes nicely. The 20 grain is too fast for a coyote. It just blows up on the fur. It is a fun little cartridge. Accuracy is amazing. Wish you could try it on fox.

A couple of years ago I shot a snipe with a muzzleloader. Never thought I would do it again but I just did!
The first bird was easy, just passing. None of their usual zig zagging but the second bird was a zig zagger. The first barrel missed but the second at 40yds and the bird fast, left to right connected.
Quite pleased. Their meat will be used up just the same as anything else.

Nice you are getting out. Made me think, it's about about 40 years since I shot a Snipe. Nice shooting!

And I'm curious, what is the common practice for carrying a double with hammers, open and cocked, or?

It's a muzzleloader but either way I keep the gun closed and hammers cocked unless I get distracted. If in company I have to be more cautious.

Thanks for the great photos! I've often thought that it would be fun to hunt with a muzzle loading shotgun. It would slow things down a bit, but that isn't a bad thing.

Great to hear from you again, Nath. Best wishes to you for your new year, hope you get to make a lot of smoke.

Many of us here do not understand your comment about being "made redundant". Please explain.

Nice to hear from you! Stay safe and enjoy 2021. It sounds like you will have plenty of time in the outdoors having been made redundant. Work is over rated!

I love your photography.
