450 marlin

Just started reloading for my 450 , and am just currios if any one has any data for 405 gn flat point bullets . I'm looking to hunt black bear and pigs with it . thanks for the info . I'm currently reloading 11 other cartrages and just cant seem to find much on the 450. I'm currently loading 44 gns of h-4198 and not sure if thats to hot or too cold , might go shoot a few this weekend.

Lots of data floating around. I did alot of work with the .450 in a custom Marlin Guide Gun built by Mic McPherson. I sold that rifle to a forum member about one year ago. The work was published in Accurate Shooter mag. in an article by Mic McPherson. We concentrated our work on the 460grFNGC by Cast Perf. The bullet was a proto type back then and was designed for the .45-70 not the .450. Anyway it is a good round with lots of published data. It is essentially the old .458 American 2" that Frank Barnes developed years ago. Case capacity is slightly less than the .45-70. Good Luck. 1886.

The Lee manual has one page of loads for the 450 Marlin and they're all jacketed loads. The 400 jacketed and H4198 starts at 41 gr and maxes at 45.5. The 45-70 modern loads list a 405 gr lead bullet and H4198 load of between 38.7 and 44 and the 450 and 45-70 have the same case capacity.
