BREAKING NEWS ON THE 480 ACHILLES!

Post by JimT »

John Killebew of KDM (http://kdmcans.com/) has designed a new crimp die for the 480 Achilles. It is a collett die like the one we cobbled together years ago, but this one works without needing a "spacer" ... just like any normal crimp die!

It is what we have needed for a long time. John did a great job of design and engineering and making it ... demonstrating his skill. I really appreciate it as I am sure all you 480 Achilles shooters will also. All 4 or 5 of you.

Uh ... well ... see ... John is one of the guys who helped come up with the idea of the 480 Achilles and is one of the 4 or 5 who actually have one and shoot it ... so I am not sure that counts.

Yessir. And I can hook you up with a real crimp die for that imaginary 480 should you need one.

Right now I can’t get a 480 revolver but I might be able to get a crimping die. Then I would have a reason to get the revolver

Ok...good news for the 27 people who reload for that cartridge. :D

Yes...I prefer a collet crimp except for heavy recoilers like the big magnums where I prefer a roll crimp..for cast bullets....

I've found this baby will put a nice collet "style" crimp on anything.........for those cartridges that are weird......set up takes a few minutes....or an hour....but you can run em out almost as fast as you can with the proper collet dies.

Just tested this out on a 44 Webley Bulldog BP round.....-----6

It would be a lot of fun. I use the Lee style Factory Crimp Dies for several calibers.

With that heavy slug at such a low velocity, it was more like a fast walk.

Six,

I'm sure if you ask Lee would make you a Factory Crimp Die for that fat little Webley round. I mean talk about demand! There's gotta be at least two or three people out there reloading for that puppy. Not counting you of course.

I am sick with the 480 fever, and just sent John Killebrew an e-mail asking about the crimp die. Like Fordwannabe says, maybe if I have the die sitting around, a sixgun will come sniffing at the back door.

You know Jim, in that pic they look just like .22 Shorts that have the tip filed flat.

I kinda thought that die was bigger . . .

They are sorta like a .22 Short ... fatter though ...

The die is made on a standard die body size. The old original die we made was based on the Lee .45-70 collett die. This one works much better.

Maybe just a tad bit heavier too, I bet.
