Who designed the first takedown for levers??

According to the Winchester historian they came up with the first takedown for levers. I talked to the curator of the Browning museum, a wonderful 85 year old gentleman that has studied all of John Browning’s writings, sketches etc. and he said there is no evidence JMB designed it. Who was actually the first?

Are you counting the takedown available on the 1873's in 22? My understanding is that it was pretty poor and required drifting a pin out ... which is hardly convenient compared to the takedown ring system on the later guns. Further, I'm not sure when it became available.

I've only seen the Marlin takedown mechanism in pictures ... never actually handled one. They seem quite a bit more rare. They look robust though.
... I love poetry, long walks on the beach, and poking dead things with a stick.
