The Marlin 410 and another squirrel for the stew
My first squirrel of the season, I've since gotten another with another gun, I took with my Marlin 410 shotgun. This gun is just so much fun to hunt with and points so naturally. I got this grey back in mid September with a load of #6 shot. My son was with me and can't wait to go squirrel hunting next year when he can take them.

That is one cool shotgun. I had no idea they even made one. My squirrel shotgun was also a .410 but a little single shot.

Is that a Model 36 from the 30's?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Have one like it that a patient gave me. Smooth and shoots where it looks.

MAN O MAN I like the shotgun! If I saw one of those for sale, reasonable, it might get past the " I don't want to buy another gun " barrier Not a new one though !

No that's a Model 410 shotgun, first introduced around 1930 and made from leftover 1893 parts. They were first offered only as a Marlin stock reward to anyone who bought 4 shares of Marlin premium stocks. Then when very few were given away, they put them up for sale at $32.95 each.
But his is a very rare deluxe version never offered as a stock reward, and only sold a small number of. They had the deluxe checkered stock and forearm not found on standard Model 410's.
I had a couple Model 410 lever action shotguns, and they are one of the sweetest shooting 410 shotguns ever made! Quick to point, and an action as slick as heck too! They cycle and run smooth as butter!

A standard Model 410 goes around $1,000-$1300. A Deluxe as shown could go almost twice that to the right buyer!

That would be a perfect woods walking gun for me...

The flavor of a squirrel killed by such a pretty gun, is bound to be improved!

Re: The Marlin 410 and another squirrel for the stew
I have two of the marlin 410s, one a shooter grade, the other very nice, BUT have never seen a deluxe for sale. that is just a a terrific beauty. we have shot a lot of grouse with ours.

I'll bet squirrels just come running and beg to be shot with a shotgun that pretty.
