Pure Ground Mica ...... ?

Needed to order some shell holders from Midway, and to get the order over their $25.00 minimum I added a can of Pure Ground Mica.

Instructions mention using it to lube case necks and to keep lubed bullets from sticking.

So with the rifle cases you gotta use lube on the body, then dip the case mouth into this mica powder? It mentions some sort of case neck lubricator, but I don't have one of those.

Anything else it's good for?

If you use liquid Alox, a light dusting will keep them from being sticky.

Joe, the case neck lubricator is a small plastic trough with several size brushes sticking up out of it. You just push the case down over the appropriate size brush into the mica then pull it back up. The brush removes the excess fron the inside.

I have a little cheap one but it does help with the drag of the expansion button.

I can't really come up with another use for the mica but there has to be something common to use it on around the house ... it is a lubricant ...

Mica can be worked into your rabbit ear front rest shooting bag..Keeps the drag the same in recoil..That is of course if you use one

When we had the shop, I had a 35 gallon trash can nearly full of the stuff. It sold when most of the rest of the shop equipment did because I had nowhere to put it. I used it for slow cooling cast iron after welding it. It worked well and eliminated the long, slow, post/weld heat treatment.

If you reload shotgun shells you can drop some in your bag of wads to lubricate them.

Also good for lubing locks etc. Cleaner than graphite won't freeze up a lock in low temperatures like oil. I use it to lube case necks with the Lyman lube station. A little goes a long way.

That stuff is pretty worthless as a case lube, but does well to keep cast bullet from sticking together.

I have a small container of powdered graphite and a Q-tip to dust the inside of my case necks. Not elegant, but it has worked for years.

I've done the same thing. I like it if I'm not going to tumble the freshly sized brass after sizing it. But normally I smear some case lube around the case mouth and then run it through. That works pretty good and when I tumble the cases to get rid of the case lube on the body the mouth and neck are clean too.
