Need help identifying year of make of vintage ammo
Gentleman, I apparently bought some ammunition some time ago that I forgot I owned. Its in one of my favorite cartridges, the venerable 375 H & H, in 270 grain and 300 grain. I currently have a CZ 550 chambered in Ackley Improved with a lengthened chamber and some other mods. If anyone has some information, please share. The advertising writes about using smokeless powder as something almost new! -Tutt

Friends says seems like early 1930's. Or late 20's. Todd/3leg

30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

It says non-mecuric primers, so when did they come into use? Weren't all primers corrosive until the early 50's?
Re: Need help identifying year of make of vintage ammo
There is handload information written on the box in that last pic
Re: Need help identifying year of make of vintage ammo
Mercuric primers were pretty much out of production by 1930, with boxes specifying non-mercuric through the 1950's. I saw such boxes on gun shop shelves in the 1960's, new ammo. I probably still have 20 boxes of mixed calibers.

box says " adapted to the Winchester model 70" and the model 70 came out in the 30's [ 1936, I believe ] preceded by the model 54

You are correct on your date of first manufacture of the first Winchester Model 70 in 1936. So far, my outside sources are suggesting the 1930's. Your post helps a lot! Tutt,
The Winchester box is called the "1935 Box"...made in multiple calibers from 1935-1940 so yours is obviously from introduction of the model 70 to 1940.
The Western box fits in the same time frame but I don't have the books for that to narrow it down to year or years.
