Now, why? Because the current tendency to bash all police officers is a symptom of the greater problem - the obstinate refusal to treat others as we ourselves want to be treated. The attitudes expressed by many here (on both sides of the issue) merely enhance the "us vs them" mentality rather than seeking a good answer to the problems. This forum is not the place to foment that kind of attitude or activity - in either direction. So until Monday, June 2, 2008 we as a forum will not address the issue of law enforcement. Let's give it a rest, take a few deep breaths and when we come back to it let's do so in a manner which does not alienate anyone but rather seeks the greater good through constructive conversation rather than harsh and nonproductive rhetoric.
OK. Y'all can now burn me in effigy, say we're violating your first amendment rights, contact FARC and ask for a special hit squad, call for the revocation of my passport, hire a chinaman to curse me (Mark Twain reference for those who've not read "Roughing It") or whatever. But we'll merely nuke posts on the issue of law enforcement for the duration of the moratorium so please save us the trouble.
Thanks!
