Could someone that has a standard Marlin 1894 44mag please measure the height of the front sight insert and also the height of the rear sight blade from the very bottom to the bottom of the U-notch.

Marlin 1894 44mag folding rear sight/front sight question

I get for the front 1.70" from bottom of magazine tube to top of gold bead. The magazine tube is 0.65" diameter and snug against the barrel. The barrel is 0.65" diameter also.
So the sight should be 0.40" tall from top of bead to barrel surface, or 0.725" from bore axis. I didn't remove the sight to measure it, but it appears to be about 0.3" from dovetail base to top of gold bead.
The rear sight is much harder for me to get a read on (I'm no machinist!), but the center of the peep (which should be same as the center of the "U" since I didn't change my front sight at all) I have appears to be maybe 0.730" from bore axis. I get about 0.4" from dovetail base to center of peep.
I still use my scope, so it clutters the pics, but here's what I was measuring from:

A couple of years ago, with Marlin factory sights and my hand loads, I was shooting 3" low at 50yds with max elevation. So, I opted for a scope during that hunting season.
But now I want to go back to irons.
Problem is, I gifted my rear sight assy. to a fellow forum member last year and all I have available is a Win94 rear sight.
So just wondering which of the two has the higher aiming point.

Thanks for the thought AJ, but the Marlin sight would still be leaving me 3" low at 50yds.
I just need to know the height of the Marlin so I can see if my Win94 rear sight will offer a higher aiming point.

On the flip-up sight I use, there is quite a bit of elevation adjustment, but I don't know how it compares to the original factory style of sight. The height mine is at that I quoted SHOULD be the height of the original though, since it DID shoot right on with the factory sight (I just like peeps better), and I didn't alter the front one.
Anyway, the little flip-up ones are widely available (and of course they come with "U" notch blades as well as the peeps) and you may have some gun that has one on it you don't use and could pop out and try.
The little flip-ups are inexpensive, but don't have the 'on the fly' elevation adjustments, but also don't get 'on the fly' MIS-adjustments if you bump them!
Anyway, good luck getting sighted in with irons again.
