I like the note on what shot size is in there. The crimp looks good to me.

Wish I could take credit for making the tools ! BPI sold me the roll crimper as well as the shell vise and Ken Burns remanufactures the MEC press to handle an 8 gauge .

Shot four of the roll crimp jobs trimming tree limbs . Three were ones I’d didn’t quite have the spacers correct and one was what I considered a good one . Let me just say 1 5/8 ounces of 7 1/2’s at about 5 yards does a very pleasing job of trimming tree limbs .

Monday I’m going to see what I can do with 000000 buck and 730 grain .775” slugs in the Remington roll crimped hulls .

Did a couple roll crimped 8 gauge with 000000 buck and am able to get eight instead of six pellets along with buffer . Now all I need to do is see what the pattern board says . After that I also loaded some .775” 730 grain punkin balls . First two I didn’t get quite tight enough to suit me but the second two I added enough spacers so they were tight . Again targets will be the final test .

Thank you sir !

Last year around this time I picked up a Parker DH 12 gauge 3 frame with factory original 28" barrels and a flat rather than concave top rib . Anyway that ones choked tighter than the hinges of well you know and I trimmed limbs with it as well as it was difficult for me to get away from the house at that time .

Two slugs at 25 from right barrel and two from the left barrel . I think if I put 3 to 5 layers of masking tape around them it might snug them up enough to be suitable for my parameters .

And a shot from each barrel at 25 yards with buffered 000000 buck . In these roll crimped I’m able to fit eight pellets instead of six in the folded crimp shells .

Slugs are showing some potential. The buckshot loads are getting there too. Are you trying different powders with the roll crimps?

Shot two punkin balls and two slugs all from the right barrel at 25 yards . The two punkin balls looked pretty decent the two slugs are still a bit apart . Might try a couple more wraps of tape on the slugs .

The thought of an 8 gauge makes my head hurt. I'm more of a 28 gauge kind of guy.

Just so happens I've been laboring over a pair of MEC 9000 28 gauge loaders today and I assume I may very well be doing the same tuesday and thursday this week .

I also loaded some more of the .775” punkin balls with five wraps of masking tape sitting on top of six 1/8” cards in the SP-8 shot cup again pushed with Universal clays . Again from the right barrel .

I think I’m pretty well satisfied with the buck load . And I think the punkin ball load will do . I’m also of the opinion the slug load works well enough but I may try two more just for the heck of it .

Buckshot looks good enough. That's at 25 yards?
Both the slug and ball look like they will do as well.
Now go plunk a few vermin deer, or as my forester buddy calls them- mountain maggots.

“IF” and that’s a mighty big if , if Precision ever gets the new 8 gauge hulls I’ve spoken for I’m going to purchase a roll crimper for the 10 gauge and quite possibly the 12 gauge . I wouldn’t wanna do roll crimps for hundreds of target loads in any gauge but in groups of 10-20 it isn’t that bad .

Well ordered 100 new unfired Remington 8 gauge hulls off GB today a bit pricey but I wang some new hulls on hand . And we got an order from Midway at the shop today and there was a BPI 10 gauge roll crimper in the box ! I didn’t remmember ordering that but I wanted one anyway . So if my WIN 8 hulls ever get to Precision I’ll get a 12 gauge roll crimper and maybe a 16 gauge .
