The 8 goes to war !

Post by 6pt-sika »

War that is against the deer on the damage control permits ! A 730 grain slug in the right barrel and sixteen 0 buck in the left . Also brought the little Mannlicher Schoenauer MC carbine in 7x57 along in case they’re much over thirty yards away ! That one has handloads with Nosler 140 BT’s and Hornady 139 SST’s in the magazine .

This is the only one in my collection....may the Good Lord bless your shoulder!

On another note the big 8 ga. in a semi auto with a 100 rd drum magazine would be great for antifa crowd control. :D --6

Next to a 38 Spl.

Actually the loads in this thing aren’t to bad . With the gun weighing about 14 pounds and the loads be of a lesser pressure level the recoil is tolerable .!

We only do tuesdays and fridays . And it isn’t looking promising for this Friday as we’re still supposed to have heavy rain . Sure we can go sit out in the rain but that’s no fun and the 8 or ANY of my Mannlicher Schoenauer’s aren’t being subjected to that . You know if I’m able to plunk one or two with the 8 I might bring the 28 Parker out as well with a slug in one barrel and buck in the other .

I think you should make it a priority to kill a deer ( or 2) withboth the 8 and the 28 !!

I kinda have a hankering to plunk one with one of the Parker 16’s shooting my home cast 16 gauge slugs . Cast these from a Rooskie mold I got off eBay , they look like a slightly scaled down version of the Lyman 525 sabot slug .

Precision’s has 5,000 nice new unfired Winchester 8 gauge hulls on the way supposedly by the end of June . 500 of them already have my name on them . Today I decided to order an 8 gauge roll crimp tool from BPI . I think I might get 50 of the new Remington hulls from the guy on GB they’re kinda stout price wise but I can endure the price for 50 . Just would like to get a couple hundred of the Guluandi wads to use in the REM hulls with the heavier loads .

I had no idea I’d have an 8 now . I was anticipating hopefully getting one in about five years . I was just fortunate at the right time . The BAD thing is I want a Parker hammerless 8 to go with the hammer gun . Don’t get me wrong I like hammer guns as I have quite a few but to be totally honest my preference are hammerless guns .

The three ball molds from Tanner Molds in the UK showed up today . They’re been floating around in the USPS for the last two weeks . Kinda strange it took six days for them to be made taken to the UK post office and make the trip to Chicago then two weeks to get from Chicago to central VA .

A few results this afternoon . Maybe after dinner I’ll see how 000000 buck stack in SP-8 shotcups or without the petals . Same for the .775” roundball.

It looks kinda promising ! It appears I might be able to shot the six pellets of 000000 with the wad cup still attached . And it appears that the .775” roundball with either one or two 1/8” 12 gauge cards in the bottom of the shot cup might work as well .

Just loaded a few . Loaded two more of the 730 grain .775” slug with International Clays but this time I put two wraps of masking tape instead of just one to tighten it a skoosh more going thru the chamber . Then I loaded two of the .775” roundball with two 1/8” 12 gauge cards under it in the shot cup also with International Clays . And finally I loaded two with 000000 buck also pushed with International Clays and buffered . Only put six of the pellets in the two shells .

Well except for the fact that the VDGIF says no shotguns larger than 10 gauge during any “hunting season” . Damage Control however does not fall under the same rules .

Well haven’t been to the range yet . But I shot the 000000 loads and the punkin ball loads in the side yard an hour ago . Amazingly they did relatively well that is the buck load atleast . The two punkin balls from the right barrel hit the box but not anywhere close to each other or the aiming point . The first is the two punkin balls , then right barrel buck and the last is the buck in the left .

And the battle resumes ! I’m prepared to go on into the dark hours as I also have my friends AR-10 suppressed with thermal optics . I’d be quite satisfied just to plunk one with the 8 gauge . And possibly a second in daylight with the 7x57 .

Just finished casting enough of the 000000 balls for 10-12 rounds and seven of the .775” balls . My outdoor thermometer in the shade said 98 . Ran the weed eater around the house while I was waiting for the lead to liquify . Then goterdone as quick as possible !

The 000000 I cast the other day I decided to roll between two pieces of steel today to kinda round out the spruce area . So while at the shop today I rolled about half of what I cast . When I got home I loaded two rounds with International Clays and six pellets with buffer . And shortly I shot one from the right and one from the left at 30 yards . BOTH barrels tightened up the pattern noticeably although POI was a touch left of POA . When I got back in the house I loaded two more for Damage Control Tuesday evening !

I shot four rounds of Skeet at the club today . And I did it backwards I shot the first two with a 28 the third with a 16 and the last with the 8 . I should’ve shot the 8 first then the 16 and shot the light little 28 last . Used the roll crimped 1 5/8 ounce and star crimped 1 1/2 ounce loads . I’ll just say Brutus takes a bit of effort to get started and A LOT of effort on doubles to start stop and reverse Didn’t get them all but I got enough to make me wanna do it some more . But next time I’ll shoot the 8 FIRST
