I was there today, and saw Ted Nugent - I wish ALL OUR PREDIDENTIAL CANDIDATES were as clearly spoken. I'm so sick of wishy-washy politicians who are afraid to express an opinion, or even afraid to THINK.

It is sad but true that the Republicans always pick candidates who are "Democrat-Lite" and we wind up grudgingly endorsing the "lesser of two evils." Sure, I'll vote McCain to keep Obama out of office, but I'll also PLAN on being disappointed in my fellow gun owners for NOT keeping his feet to the fire on Second Amendment issues.

If they'd picked Paul and Huckabee as their team, the election would have been won hands down by Republicans; unfortunately, the press deemed those candidates "unelectable" and the Republican machine was stupid enough to believe the (socialist, Democrat) news media, and now we have a 50/50 chance we'll elect a gun banner vs. a half-hearted 'pro-gun' candidate.

Pray for us all...

When a Dem cracks a joke, even in poor taste, about a conservative, it barely gets a mention. We'll be hearing about this for a long time!

i thought it was funny. i think he is real. we live in such a political sensitive environment that when some liberal gets offended it is a great crime and when a conservative gets offended it is like well get over it already.

i am sorry people are so uptight about life they can't take a joke.

he never stood a chance of a real run at president cause too many conservatives are too busy apologizing about being conservative. i feel the same about ron paul too he doesn't stand a chance either, but most of his supporters are too busy crying and whining about not getting any coverage.

the political structure has been at least in most of our life times about choosing the lesser of two evils. it will always be that way when you have the unbalanced coverage of the media and entertainment.

I think you guys are missing a couple ove very important points here:

This was at the NRA Convention.

The Joke involved the explicit implication that an NRA member at the convention would aim a firearm at a Presidential Candidate.

This was broadcast LIVE on national TV.

He could have used a Racial Slur and done less damage to RKBA.

Fortunately, his throwaway joke got more gasps than guffaws - and that says somthing about the audience - but I don't care who you are and/or how much you disagree with a candidate, or even if you pray every night that lightning will strike him/her...twice, you do not make jokes about shooting a president or presidential candidate.

That is not 1st Amendment protected "political speech", that's a level of stupidity that can, and usually does, get you talked to by the Secret Service... at a very minimum. He had a Detail. He should know this by heart.

Of all people, we "gun guys" should know how bad of form it is to make jokes about misusing our guns - especially in public. Doing it where he did and about who he did magnified it a thousand fold.

This is not the kind of thing I cut people slack on... He set RKBA back years - and gave the Dems/Antis a PERMENANT talking point to show why "Gun Toting NRA Republicans" can't be trusted with guns - because, hell, they even make jokes about shooting innocent people on Live TV...

I agree with Old Ironsights. My little brother used to remind me of an old saying, which I think was attributed to Confucious (spelling?), "It is better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought a fool, than to open it, and remove all doubt."

I wish the NRA folks had cut the electricity to the idiot's mike right away, and ushered him off the stage. There are some things which just won't fly today in the world we live in. Making jokes about a political candidate being shot at qualifies as one of those things. For this fool to say what he did at an NRA gathering is beyond foolish.

We've got enough of a fight in front of us, keeping our gun rights. We don't have to provide the ammo for our opposition. - DixieBoy
