I am, despite checking the "remember me" box. Must have something to do with the upgrade.

No issues here Bill. Might be your computer settings that aren't working after the changes? Might check any security settings you have to make sure this forum is listed as a favorite, or preferred in the settings.

But today it's acting normal again.

No, but I did notice that 'uploading photo attachments' is quite different, and you don't see them appearing on the message until you finish.

OK. I checked the settings, "unplugged it and plugged it back in", and no change. Not sure what's going on. I even deleted the cookie from the site and that didn't change things either. Not sure what to tell you folks on this one. I'll keep poking around as time allows.

Login site amnesia

Post by trapper45 »

Lately--starting the last week--every time I click on Leverguns I have to log in again, even though I select 'remember me.' Is anybody else encountering this, or am I just a technological troglodyte (which is true, anyway) and haven't mastered the trick?

Or could it be the site is just really visit- and traffic-heavy since most all of us are confined to quarters?

See this thread started on the 29th. of last month. I don't believe it's just cookies, began right after the upgrade. I have tried to send Hobie a PM regarding the problem but it just lays there in my outbox (yes, I'm logged in) so it sounds like the problem goes deeper than just log ins. I've tried everything I can to fix the issue but no luck.

No joy after shutdown and restart. Cookies aren't an issue--dump 'em every chance I get. Now when logging in, the window changes to the thread discussions before I have a chance to check the 'remember me' box. I can work around it; only a minor inconvenience--not a show-stopper. Just wondering if anyone else had/is having the same experience. Y'all stay safe. Cheers.

Done that just recently. All other sites with a 'remember me' log-in feature do remember me, so I'll just re-log in every time for a while and see if it settles down. If not, no biggie. A few extra keystrokes don't hurt. :D

I'm inline with trapper45, this site is...odd for not maintaining the log in.

Yes, I know the old fall-back advice of 'delete your cookies', that ain't it.

For reference I'm windows 10, latest firefox, extensions 'https everywhere' turned on, but my adblock and ghostery is turned /off/ for this site.

Even with those add-ons turned on, I stay logged in on every major site you care to name, facebook, amazon, netflix, and several other smaller forums.

Don't know if it's something peculiar to this php software or how this particular forum is configured, but there is something different about this site.

No matter, I just click through the log-in, FF has my identification cached and I move on.

But it is odd.

I'm sorry, but 'clearing the cache/cookies" or 're-installing the browser' is just hopeful hand-waving.

And that doesn't work.

Interesting, I posted my previous comment at 730a this morning and I had to log-in to do. I checked the box to keep me logged in.

Now, at 450p I came back to this thread. Guess what? I had to log back in to post this.

Add'tl info, I'm using Spectrum for my ISP. Don't know if they're doing something in the background, although I can't see what.

It's your browser or YOUR internet settings... I use Chrome, it asks me separately (besides the "remember me" button if I want to save the login info for any site I log into. If I check "yes", no problems, if... I check "no" it doesn't remember me. If I keep the particular tab open, no problems, but if I close the tab, I'd be leery, I don't know what'd happen... it's MY computer, it stays with me most of the time, and no one else has access.

I've also noticed the thin grey colored bar under the main Kelly's lever gun header has changed.
It used to be
Pack Kelly's lever guns.com<Leveguns community index< General Discussion ( or classified, etc) now it's just a couple of << after index. Seems there might be a couple things were changed - doesn't mean much but changed none the less.

I have the identical problem. I have deleted cookies and made certain the new cookie is accepted always by my TenFourFox browser.I have restarted using a different start-up drive with its different TenFourFox browser. All settings of system and browser remain as they were when REMEMBER ME functioned correctly. Problem remains. I have completely restored my drive via Disk Warior and Tech Tools Pro. I have completed a virus and anomaly scan with ClamXav. Zero prolems. While the drive and all on it are fine, the Leverguns.com start-up always, now, requires me to log in.

If you are running a version of Mac OSX as I am, I anticipate the core application has a problem.

On the other hand, if you are not running a version of Mac OSX as I am, I anticipate the core application has a problem.

If you look up above through the two threads we've merged on the topic, we have been addressing the issue. It is an issue related to the browser used. I'm not sure exactly what, but am running both Opera and Chrome. In Opera there is a persistent login. I open it, go to this forum, it pops up with my username logged in.

On Chrome, however, it does not work that way. I check the "Remember Me" box and log in. Browse a bit, close Chrome, come back later, have to do it all over again. What this shows me is that there is apparently a conflict between the settings in Chrome and this site. This is an individual problem, not a site problem. An individual problem in that it affects various individuals - and many individuals are not affected by it. Exactly what's going on, I'm not sure but it doesn't worry me as it does not affect the proper functioning of the site as far as allowing people to come into the site, browse around, chat, chew the fat, shoot the bull, pass the time, grouse, belly ache, whine, laugh, giggle, commiserate, commemorate, and carry on the community life we've enjoyed here over the past many years. So I'll not lose any sleep over an issue that is related to individual browsers and is not a site wide failing.

We now return all y'all to our normal activities.

I use Opera on my PC almost exclusively. If I navigate away from the site, and then enter the address for the forum again, it's forgotten me. If instead I use the previous screen function (back arrow) to return to this site, I'm still logged in, even if I do a screen refresh. The behavior is the same with Firefox.

With Safari on my iPhone, I remain logged in either way.

Weird.

Okay, I figured it out, at least for my case.

My bookmarks were set to http: but the site is using https: (encrypted transfer) after you log in. When I changed the bookmark I'm using in Opera to https: it works as expected. The site will run as http: but it won't remember you.

The bookmark on my phone must have been set later. It was already set to https:.

That was my issue as well, although it wasn't as simple as adding an "s". But deleting my existing bookmark and saving a new one seems to be working. So much for "it's not the site changes, it's your computer".

Okay, the required log in each time happens to some but not others. It isn't a site problem or we'd all have the problem. If you have the site saved as a favorite or as one of your opening tabs, delete it and all passwords associated with it and start by going to the website by typing in the address. Then when you log in check the stay on button. Close everything and restart your browser, type in the address again. This time you can save it as a favorite or tab.

If your browser predicts http:// for this site when you're typing it in, the site won't recognize you. Once you're logged in, you'll be accessing the site via https://, and this is the time to delete the old bookmark/favorite and create the new one.

I have the same issue when using this laptop computer, but I don't have any issues using my desktop 'mainframe' ... I'm wondering if it is a "no-script" issue. I have the same version of firefox on both boxes. and I am seeing a script warning when I go to this login page... which I ignore, type in credentials, and log in.... just wondering.....
