I just came across a NIB Charles Daly 1892 Takedown NRA Limited Edition .45 Long Colt.
It has 24 inchOctagon barrel, case colored receiver, nice walnut, and crescent steel buttplate and is listed at $690.
Anyone own one of these?
Any opinions on the price?
I do not REALLY need one of these, but they are fun to shoot and it could complement my 1892 .357.

iirc shooting times did an article on these a year or more
ago with the usual writers glowing reports,
it was a nice looking rifle though. 699.00
may not be too bad though the last lsi-rossi i bought was 560 or so.
IMO it's a "Buy NOW" if you have the cash. It's only about $100-$150 more than a Rossi
But then, I'm a sucker for 92's and Takedowns...

Seriously, That's a good deal on that TD 92. Cimarron gets over $1000 for the same rifle.

Thanks gents for the advice and comments. The ad also claims that all internal parts are hand fitted and polished, so maybe there would be no need for an action slick up job.
A related ad says the same "hand fitted and polished" thing about .357 and .45 cal Charles Daly single actions with walnut grips: priced at $270 (more than $100 below retail); maybe I should try to get the SA and 1892 in .45 Colt - what a nice pair that would be.

That's a good price. It leaves you with money left over so you can replace the loading gate and ejector with the correct ones.
These guns look good. The lines are true to the old 92 on the outside at least. As for the insides, the early Armi Sport guns were made from Armi San Marco parts and had some functionality problems. The current guns are much better but they have done some things I think are solutions to problem that don't exist. (cut cost?) The lever/bolt pin is screwed in. Somebody's gonna end up beating he!! out of one of these guns thinking it's like the original. The other issue is the tiny nut they added to the loading gate rather than thread the gate. If you don't know this taking one apart you will most likely lose it. They have changed the angle of the rim slots in the cart guides too. This will make them more ammo sensitive, but more important the 357m guns have a left side guide but it doesn’t have the carrier detent skirt on it like the original. Rather than leave enough metal on the inside of the frame for the detent they added a piece that has a screw into the inside of the receiver that I know can’t have more than one full thread holding the piece in place. But the one that drives me nuts, like the old ASM’s it has a two piece ejector that is prone to separate. I do like their takedown gun. I bought one in 357mag but it now has a Rossi ejector, lever/bolt pin, cart guides and loading gate.
Sounds like you need a sign like my Buddy's wife put up at their saddle shop: "We're closed. Just throw your money under the door"!

Picked one up at this price a few weeks ago. The gun is a good shooter with cast and the chamber is tighter than the Puma's. Loads that sooted in the Puma are clean in the CD. I did remover the terrorist block from the mag tube and am now able to load more than 5 shots. The action is as smoooth out of box as my tuned Puma. The gun does have a 1-16 twist and you may need to tune yor loads accordingly. A full hunnting load of IMR 4227 and the Hornady 240 XTP shoots under 3" at 100 paces with the factory irons and is all I need for any hunting around this area.
CDNN is selling the CD 1892 take-downs for $690 - so that seems like an OK deal. I've bought a lot of stuff from CDNN and have not been disapointed yet - so I'd say to go for it.
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!
Gents -good news on the rifle, bad news on the budget.
My set-aside money probably just went for an operation and weeks care to the local equine vet(approx $2000). Seems that the momma of our new colt stepped on a two inch nail and it went way into her foot. After the vet made a house call, she said she needs to operate soon or we could lose the mare. So, I am now babysitting/hanging out with grandson while his momma and grand mom wait for the equine center to admit the mare and colt (not weaned).

darn, sorry to hear about her. Get one of those rubber boots from Davis Equine for the soaking therapies. I wrap them with duct tape to keep them from sloshing out the solution.

Ricky and Travis;
Thanks for your concern. The mare is at the Rockwall Equine Facility where they did the operation and will keep her for a week. They are located down south of Ricky's place towards Quinlan. I hear they are very good and have vets on site 24x7.
She will need a clean dry stall for a month after that and our run in barn stalls are dirt floored, so we may board her at the vets for 30 days rather than bring she and the colt home.
This has my wife and daughter really in a funk, so we will do what we can to get her well.

Boy she looked fine with the nail and after you removed it. Horses sure are fragile things for their size. Best of luck Charles and keep us informed of how Doppler is doing too (the foal).
Punctures are a real bitch top heal. As for bringing her home, as long as you can keep it dry, just pack it with gauze and pad the hell out of it.
