If you're new to reloading, get a copy of Lee's book. alot of basic knowledge and loads for about everything that you can trust. After you get a feel for what is proven safe, you will be able to take loads off the different sites and be able to predict whether they are bogus or not.....when in doubt, don't load it.

Go to www.eabco.com/barels01.html scroll down & look for a paragraph titled "Killing Power for Sport Hunting" then look for PO Ackley Handbook Vol 1 & 2 which they sell You should buy them!!!
Also, a fellow forum member here.........William "Slim" Iorg has done a good bit of shooting/experimenting with the 30/30 AI. He posts here occasionally and search should bring up his profile. Good luck and welcome!
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
As a general rule you can use about 2 grs more powder in the ai than the original cartridge.
If I were to do another 30-30 ai, I'ld first work up maximum loads using slow for the cartridge powders, and chronograph them. Then when the rifle came back with its fresh ground chamber, I'ld add 5% of the previous maximum charge and see what the chrono says. Pretty reasonable to assume that if the 5% extra powder added 150-200 fps more then you've got the maximum for the new cartridge.
150's do benefit a bunch from ai'ing, the 170's gain quite a bit, but pressures always seem to get pretty high before anything really exciting shows up on the chrono.
Powders slower than 4895 are the best choice for good velocity gains in the 30-30 ai.
