The new .357s are Keepers!
I got to the range this morning just as it was starting to rain again. Had enough time to run a few rounds through both the S&W and the Marlin.
It had been raining most of the day yesterday and the range was pretty soaked already, so shooting was offhand at 25 yrds. The Marlin was up first, Windage is dead on with some nice groups of factory 158 Gr JSPs and some lead flat points, grouped well, but several inches low. With a 6:00 hold on the bullseye, POI was just off the bottom of the target. You can see one at the very bottom edge. Plinked around with some .38 Spls. This thing fed everything I ran through it, including semi and FULL wad cutters! I think the boys at Marlin have gotten thier early issues resolved. The fit and finish is really nice. No gaps, tool marks, etc.
The TRR8 is an absolute blast! It's pretty snappy with the factory 158 JSPs but not unpleasant. I didn't like the feel of the factory grips and just happened to have a set of nice, fat round but stag grips not currently doing anything. They look a bit out of place on the matte finished revolver, but they fit my hand perfectly. It's an absolute pleasure to shoot with .38 Spls and at 25 yds no bowling pin was safe. The flyers on the right and left were my fault. This thing will shoot better than I can.
The approaching thunder and lightning were getting a bit violent so I packed up and headed for the truck. The following monsoon started just as I was getting back to the truck.
Can't wait to spend a few hours with these two. The Marlin seems to be screaming for a scout scope rail and a Leopold. Haven't decided on that one yet.

Nice! Glad you are pleased.
I gotta say, I never owned a .357 in a rifle till a couple years ago and I am hooked. It's so much fun to shoot, and power is so much more than the noise and recoil would make you believe.

They are fun to shoot for sure. I have an older Interarms Rossi 92 that picked up years ago. It wouldn't feed .357s well but would shoot the .38 Spls all day. Mr. NKJ worked it over for me and it now runs perfectly, but it's not the most accurate rifle in the world. The Marlin has already outshined it in that category.

Weird. I too, have an older Interarms Rossi, and it works slick as poop. It has also been quite accurate. Sorry yours didn't perform well.2ndovc wrote: ↑Tue Sep 25, 2018 2:14 pm They are fun to shoot for sure. I have an older Interarms Rossi 92 that picked up years ago. Re: The new .357s are Keepers!
It's all good. Still fun to shoot.
Gotta say some more about the TRR8. I'd bought a 586 with a 6" barrel about a year ago and just couldn't warm up to it. It had a "tinny" sound to the action and I couldn't get any better than a 6" group out of it even at 15 yds. The TRR8 has a more solid action, better fit and feel than the L frame did, plus it's a Performance Center product and it really didn't cost much more than the 586 did. It came with an under barrel light rail and one for optics. I'm not into scopes or dots on handguns but the light rail is something I really wanted. This is going to be the new Bump in the Night gun. It also came with three moon clips, but I haven't tried them yet.
I'm going to have to invest in a trigger pull gage, the DA is just amazing for a factory gun and I'd like to know what the weight is. SA is light but has just a hint of creep, betting it will smooth out after a couple hundred rounds.
Part of the exceptionally tight lock up is that there is a detent ball at the front of the crane much like the old Triple Locks. I hadn't seen this in any of the reviews but have a guess that those younger guys haven't had the pleasure of handling a Triple Lock.
A picture of the front of the cyl/ crane.
All rigged out for night duty; Looks like it's right out of "Blade Runner".
It's been awhile since I've bought something new that I've been this pleased with. Only got about 50 or so rounds out of them before the storms hit but it's obvious that they can shoot.

Nice!
I’m still trying to get my hands on one of those 1894CSTs. Every time I check with my LGS and they call the distributor, they are to,d they aren’t shipping yet.
This patience thing is killing me.

My dealer couldn't get one either. When I bought mine on Gunbroker a couple weeks ago there were several for sale. A quick search this morning and didn't find any listed.
I hesitated buying one at first, but happy I did now.
jb
Just did another search on GB and found three. Searched under 357 mag in the lever action category.

Charles,
I always thought your 92 was pretty slick.
Nath, the TRR8 will definitely get some late night varmint action around here and the Pennsylvania hills.
I think they both will be my traveling companions for quite some time.
