OT Alert-rabies in North Texas

Post by gon2shoot »

Running a line across a ranch just west of Ft. Worth and came across 2 rattlers and a skunk that I was 99% sure was infected, (all were rendered inoperative.)
Wild-life officals wouldn't respond because it was private property, but they told me that rabies were "rapidly expanding" in the area.

Aww hell, rabies has been "rapidly expanding" in Texas for 30 years...

Those wild-life mooks will tell you anything to make you terrified of little furry things in the woods.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I thought Obama/Clinton were in Indiana.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error.

Maybe so fellas, but I'm out in the brush daily and have seen a lot more suspicious looking critters than normal.
There has also been several, more than 15 IIRC, confirmed cases in the local area in the last few weeks.

True, rabies has always been a fact of life, and I would not have bothered to comment on the status quo.

Just for the record snakes don't carry rabies.

Yes I'm aware snakes don't carry rabies, poorly worded on my part.
And I know infestations of rabies rise and fall in fairly predictable patterns.
And rabies are a constant the area.

What I was commenting on, were the the observations I have personally made, plus local reports, thinking it might be of interest to someone putting dogs in the field etc.
But, what the hell, why should I bother giving a heads up to a neighbor.

Because some of us don't get out much and appreciate the heads up? Anyway, thanks. Good reminder to keep in the back of your mind when you see a critter "not acting right"... :)

You are taking a little bit of friendly banter way too personal.

Maybe you should switch to boxers...

:P

:PNope, no boxers for me, don't like feeling bound up. I hear it makes you pessimistic and cynical  :D

I'm afeared we get rabid skunks wandering into to our little rural community fairly often. Any time one comes around town in the middle of the day, it's pretty suspect.

I thought TX already had it's primary? Oh, you're talking real rabbies - not just rabid liberals...

Just get the shots if you are worried about it. I got the vaccine shot treatment 10 years ago and have to get it again next year for international travel. It does not make you immune but your odds of survival are quite high with it.

No big deal, but dang its a lot of shots that have to be done "just so".

I live just west of Fort Worth, and appreciate the heads up. We have a lot of critters wander thru our place.

Great, now we'll have to worry about rabid illegals! When the hell are you boys gonna hire some okies to build that darned fence?
