First i had to wait, mainly on my own fortunes, then for Black Friday where deals and rebates traditionally found their way to the consumer. Springfield was the nearest competitor I was considering. Their 1911s are just as well regarded and usually their Black Friday promo comes in the form of stuff-- More mags and pouches and stuff. The only problem is you wouldn't get a threaded barrel out of them until you reached a much higher pricetag than I could budget. On the other hand, Remington came through with a $100 rebate. It was pretty much a slam dunk after that. An XDm was sacrificed for the seed money and a 1911 ordered post haste. When it's all said and done, $570 ain't too dern bad.

Like it's store brethren, my particular Remington exhibited excellent balance and a silky smooth slide. The trigger can't be more than 3.5lbs. I might need to adjust the over-travel a hair, but that's really nitpicking. Suppressor sights were part of the deal, featuring a two dot system that I instantly took a liking to. The raised sights presented me with a slight problem, as did the threaded barrel-- They would need a largely custom solution to holster. More on that later. Perhaps the only thing that came unexpected were the grips. As handsome as they are, handling them is like gripping a cactus. To say that they are aggressive is an understatement, but I'm going to reserve judgement until I put some decent time on the pistol. All the controls functioned perfectly, though the raised sights forced me to change my normal racking grip to the front instead of pulling from the back, as they were subtly causing me ride the slide and jamming the round it was feeding. Switching to the front serrations seems to have solved the issue.

The moment the pistol was ordered, I turned to the challenge of the holster. The biggest issue I ran into in sourcing suppliers was either they couldn't accommodate the threaded barrel and sights in the general 1911 molds they stocked or that they were so specialized that they only catered to specific 1911 models. Remington didn't seem overly popular in that regard, narrowing the field further. Hidden Hybrid Holsters seemed to rise to the top within a very narrow spectrum of offerings. The reviews for them seemed very positive and their communication was excellent. I soon found out that the would be able to create a general 1911 holster modified to my needs. Throw in another Black Friday 20% off discount and I really didn't have a choice but to throw my money at them.

The folks on the phone were patient and friendly. Their turnaround time was outstanding. As you can see, their product is a combo IWB/OWB piece made for comfort. While a myriad of colors were available, I chose the more traditional brown leather backing and black kydex shell. The stitching is superb and as you can see below, skin contact points are suede. The fit is likewise tight and accommodates my 1911 effortlessly. I doubt this holster will be a burden in any way, shape or form. Included was a pocket copy of the Constitution. Nice touch, and what better accompaniment for something made to house the venerable 1911. I might just have to get a mag pouch from them as well.

There is now only one thing left to do, of course. Shoot it. My week has been busy and a half, which means all I've been able to do is fondle my precious and look upon it lovingly. If it shoots half as good as it looks, I'll be in good hands. by every account I've read, i have little doubt it will. Range report soon
