HSM ammo (hunting shack munitions) 22mag

Post by meanc »

Anyone have any insight as to the quality of this brand of 22mag ammo?

I've never heard of it before, but I've got a lead on a brick of 500 for a pretty good price.

I bought some from Cabelas (I think) very good price and cheap shipping. It is not as accurate as other brands in my Marlin bolt gun, but it is good enough for shooting targets of opportunity. The only animals I have shot with it is a couple of crows. I shot a few cylinderfuls through a Ruger Single-Six with no problems. The sound of the report seems consistent, no vertical stringing or other signs of inconsistent velocity.

As far as less expensive 22Mag ammo, I prefer PMC Predator.

Only experience with this brand was some .45-70 "Police" ammo I bought in Montana in 2005. It's good stuff I'd use for hunting elk and the like. Can't find it anywhere now here in TX or on the net.

Doubt that it helps you with .22 ammo, however.

I don't know anything about their .22mag ammo, but their .38 Special is pretty good. Like their 125 grain FMG .38 special and their 158 grain .357 Mag. That stuff shots great in my Marlin 1894c and Ruger blackhawk.

If it's a good price, I'd get some to try out. Couldn't hurt could it?

I've purchased it at Cabela's as well. No problems with my Marlin and accurasy is good. Expansion is predictably quite impressive out to about 75 yards or so. I've taken coyotes and jacks with this affordable ammo.

I lost a competition I had more than easily won using their 308 WCF match grade ammo. I had to take a hammer to open my bolt. It'dclosed about halfway and seized. Bad sizing. This was 5-6 years ago so I can't speak for their quality now. My department still uses it for handgun quals. I've never had a problem with that ammo, other than the occassional backwards primer. But I've seen major brand ammo with the same problem. Won't buy it for personal use.
