I've said for decades that dogs allowed themselves to be domesticated by man because they found man so easy to train . . .

Great pix.

Might as well face it, you're addicted to guns . . .

Many years ago, a pregnant wolf, with a broken leg, driven mad by hunger, crept up to a cave with humans inside.
The men yelled and threw things at her.
The women took pity and offered food.
She subsisted on what was offered, and learned to avoid the men.
Her unborn were born, and learned to live with the humans.
The men would learn to watch the 4 legged ones for game, as thier senses were keener.
Thus began this journey, between us and them.
It IS the best deal species homo sapien has ever, or will EVER make!

My wife often says that Bailey (or Miniature Schnauzer) trained me as much or more than I trained her... A great deal indeed.

I told my wife tonight that, if our dogs knew how much their frequent barking annoyed me, they'd probably cut it out just to please me.

Yup. Just like kids.

One should never apologize for appreciating your friends.

We had Goldens' growing up, had Duchess the German Shepherd when I was a kid. Great dogs. Mom had mutts and Dobermans when she was a kid. Dad bred English Springer Spaniels. The only person that didn't really like dogs was my Grandpa P______. He for sure didn't like them in the house. I often think that heaven can't be paradise if it doesn't have dogs...

Yep - they're waiting for us at The Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

There will be a lot there waiting for me and I'll have some 'splaining to do 'cause these two are the first ones we've ever had that are allowed on the furniture -

A Will Rogers ditty:
Seems Will Rogers asked a preacher if dogs went to heaven, and the peacher replied , no, only people go to heaven.
Will Rogers replied " well, when I die , I want to go where the dogs go"

some folks might think it wrong to "equate" kids and dawgs...

for those who have never been owned by both, no explanation will do
for those who have been owned by both, no explanation required

(for me, it's not about "equal", it's just about what is best in life, and knowing what is worth more than you are)

PS
before there was "youtube" or "myspace" there was "BlueAngel",
and she put up her own page, all by herself, still up there...

http://home.rose.net/~oakshome/
http://home.rose.net/~oakshome/BlueAngel.html
(that 2nd one, that one be "mypage")

I dunno know where I will go "after", but where milady is going, "Gin-Gin" will be there to protect her

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

Your post couldn't have come at a better time. I had to put down my Austrailian Shepherd this morning which was very difficult. We had her for 8 plus years. My youngest boy was devastated. He's had her since he was 4. I will print out the poem you posted and give it to him. Thank you.

You're welcome - that's just the reason I posted it since I've almost never been without a dog in my life.

You might want to look at this little video of The Rainbow Bridge - doesn't take much time but, if anyone can see it and not get a little choked up - I wouldn't understand it.

I've been at this dog thing a long time. This Staffordshire-Boxer mix spayed "dogess" ("B" word can't be used in most forums - even though it's as legal for dogs as mare is for horses  ) chose me - she belonged to a rancher who lived a couple of miles out of town and she came in town every day and followed me all day - he gave in and made her a gift to me. This was in about 1934 -

Image

And, in about 1939 with my dad -

Image

She's waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge - she was #1 and there's a lot more since but she was special in my "growing up" years.

I can understand not wanting to go where dogs aren't allowed....

Didn't Will Rogers say something like:

"If dog's don't go to heaven, when I die I want to go where they do!"

Something like that...
