The man. date sites I've looked at for Marlins don't go high enough, or don't clearly explain the code for a bear of nominal brain like myself.
How do I interpret the serial# on my Cowboy Limited?
The # is 0404XXXXA
'zat mean it was made in '04?

I think the "04" is subtracted from the number 100 - which would make the receiver made in 1996 ?
Davidson's might be able to tell you when they actually ordered them made, since IIRC they were released for sale around 1999 or 2000.
I've found with my Ruger's for instance, that the date a receiver/frame was made can vary widely from the date the receiver/frame was actually assembled/shipped - as some may lie in the parts bin for awhile or held aside for a special run/project.

Davidson's is one of the largest, if not the largest, firearms distributor in the country - who is big enough to have various factories/gunmakers dedicate a special run of guns made to their specifications & especially marked for them.

Lipsey's is another, but not quite as large, concern.

Yup! Looks exactly like that!
In fact I just took it out to the pistol range today, with a few other items from the safe, and it proved itself once again. First time I ever made a single ragged hole with three consecutive shots of anything! 'Course, 20 yds ain't so big an achievement, I guess, but at that distance, I usually hit 2 to 3 inch groups! With a rifle! Still, it was fun!
Milady shot her custom blackhawk and remarked on how accurate it was. It helped that I had found a good accurate target load for that gun. It's more fun to hit what you shoot at!
When we go to the outdoor range. we'll take a camera and a lot of items from the goodwill. I wanna see what a fast moving 300gr .45 slug will do to a VCR!
O.k. so it's a '96. That's good to know, for reference. 'preciate all the help, and I'll post pics when we have something to post.
