I was very pleased to be able to meet Tycer and his lovely, intelligent and charming wife Nancy. They are just as nice in person as on the forum. We had a great lunch and conversation at Rowe's Family Restaurant in Staunton. I'll let Tycer speak his bit when he gets home but I had a great time. FWIW he looks just like his photo...

Tycer was on the Texas Hog Hunt in February and I met him there. He is a good guy, as were all of the hunters. Tycer is also as much of a knife nut as I am.

We were wondering, over our blueberry pie, how you and Carla were doing on the new place. Last I could remember you had posted pics of Carla at the site. Working with the Corps of Engineers and a wetland were mentioned. How's that going?

Nancy and I had a great time. Hobie could only spend two hours with us and it seemed like ten minutes. We look forward to doing it again.

I've been thinking about a new photo. (and we should have taken one!) Yes, time went fast. How about the rest of the day? What did you do and how'd it go?

I had the privilege of hunting with Ty twice and consider him a friend. I have not met his wife in person, however her correspondence and input has been valuable and she is welcome here anytime with or without Ty. They exemplify the good folks on this forum.

Carla & I are chugging along. We still are living in a FEMA trailer. That, truly, is the best place for us, while we strive to build a new house.

The wetlands is really just a 50'x50' area, at the tail-end of our lot, which is 50' wide x 237' deep. The way I read the "terms of use" for wetlands, I find that a person cannot "discharge or place dredge or fill material into a wetland". There is also some thougth as to "substatially changing its use". All we want to do is clearly define our property, so as we retain it as ours, while preserving a bit of nature. Therefore, we will fence in as much as we can, and use some type of fence around/ near the "wetlands" (50'x50', our distant backyard), to deliniate it as ours, and strive not to cut down anything in that area. We are not planning to fill in the wetlands, as this 50'x50' area is already at the same level as the rest of the lot, and it is actually not wet at all. It is just another piece of our overgrown lot. Not all activity on wetlands requires a permit. Remember, the Corp prohibits filling in a wetland, unless they O.K. it. We will not be filling in our wetlands.

March 31 is where the article starts. We have already have been aided by volunteers to clear most of our front 50'x150'. There are still some trees that need to come down, though. We are still awaiting a grant from the Red Cross. The Red Cross wants very specific information for some things, and we are waiting on a 'cost of materials' estimate from a contrcator, per the Red Cross' request.

All of this is very stressful for Carla. She feels so helpless, and hates to sit by "doing nothing". She really does contribute, but most of that is not through physical labor. Carla e-mails, calls, and helps plan things for us, but she wants to get into the dirt, and help out.

...still, we keep trusting in the LORD, and we keep plugging away.

Good to hear there is progress. These things move too slowly in the best of situations so tell Carla not to allow herself to get too stressed over it. Frankly, the phone calls and e-mails are the most stressful part of the business, the waiting, not so much... I'm sure most of us have kept you guys in our prayers all the while.
