The 57 Greatest Westerns

Post by 41 Redhawk »

Here is a listing I bumped into on the Interwebs. Some not here I would have picked.

That.... is a pretty awful list, for many reasons. I don't think I even made it to the top 25.

Rango, Lone Star, Brokeback Mountain, No Country For Old Men, Blazing Saddles,
do not belong in this list. They are not "Westerns" which by my definition are period films. The above are in the modern category, parodies, or spoof films and therefor not "Westerns".

As for the Shootist, I don't care where they put that. I went to the big screen when it came out and knew when it started it was Wayne's good bye movie. I've only watched it once since then and can't stand to watch it again.

... and the "Into the West" mini-series.

:)

Definitely; and would have removed those "surreal" and arty ones. Look at their ratings and reviews on Netflix, e.g. "El Topo" and "Meek's Cutoff."

ANY Western with Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott or Robert Duval needs to be on the list.

Clearly a list compiled by a bunch of hipster kids who went to art school then got jobs writing clickbait articles. Just enough real westerns to keep you interested, but the outlying ones tell you as much as you need to know about what the authors really think.

Rango? Seriously?

Brokeback Mountain? I don't think having the characters wear cowboy hats makes it a western....

At least they didn't stick Wild Wild West in there too!

I'm not saying that no one elses opinion counts, but mine IS the only one that matters.
