Hi All, I am strongly considering purchasing a Henry All Weather .45-70. I have zero experience with the Henry. I have read very good reports about them, however. Please share your experiences. Thank you, 1886.

With the exception of the "1860 Original", I find the Henry center fires chunky, clunky, poorly balanced and heavy..

They do not seem to fit me - or sundry other shooters I know..

I actually know a couple guys who claim that they like them, but then, I've always been a bit leery of their judgement..

That's my 2 cents worth.. An additional 98 pennies will get you a cup of mediocre coffee at the Irma Hotel..

Howdy,
Everyone has different ideas, but, I have several Henrys, including an original 1860
and I like 'em all.....
.45-70, .30-30, .22, .44mag...... You get the idea... I have other stuff as well,
but the henrys seem to be well made and "IN AMERICA"...
The mag tube loading seems to work well for me, their CS is outstanding...

The new steel-frame, round-barrel, ones are slimmer, trimmer, and lighter weight, according to their brochures.

To keep thread-related: The steel Henrys ARE markedly lighter than the brass Henrys.

To diverge slightly: Stayed in Cody for a state championship one year, but couldn't swing the Irma.
Did visit it, ate there, we'd like to go back & stay in it someday.

I just bought a Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine (16 1/2" barrel) in .357mag, haven't shot it yet, but it's not bad, actually I like it. I was looking for another Marlin 1894C, which is my favorite, but the price of a used and a newer REMarlin are prohibitive and invisible so I decided to get the Henry. The Henry weighs 6.5 lbs. and my vintage Marlin 1894c weighs 6 lbs.

1886 -- I would recommend that you take a look at one first, even if it's the blue model, but I do think that Henry is a good choice (I like the all-weather models too)... :)

P.S. -- I think as Henry continues it will get better with their design and execution.
I think in a few years our levergun choices will be used Winchesters/Marlins -- new Ross's,
Miroku Corp. Winchester's, and Henry
