POLITICS - Entrapped by Principal?

Post by Kismet »

I thought this story might interest some folks - battle between privacy (at a private school) and fighting drugs.

Really long link...

For those who want a preview...

"A New Hampshire student is suing his high school, claiming he was lured into an alleged drug deal by a principal from another school posing as a friend.

The deal was set up by Bishop Brady High School Principal Jean Barker on a cell phone she confiscated from one of her students, according to police reports."

I'm no fan of student Huckins ... but the principal may have something to answer for here as well. I'm not sure text messages fall under the unlawful intercept laws in most states like a voice call clearly would. Replying was clearly impersonating the student though. Civil actions likely to commence forthwith.

Of course if we didn't have so many stupid laws (victimless crime 'moral' laws rather than true crimes) then the whole thing would be moot:

The kids wouldn't be 'dealing' drugs because there would be no profit in it; the local pharmacy would have more reliable products for less cost.

The glamour of doing something illegal would make it less appealing to rebellious teens; some would still partake, but it isn't like our 'drug war' has reduced THAT any.

The matter of breaking laws would become no longer a habit - with kids growing up disobeying laws they view as hypocritical (i.e. marijuana illegal, booze no biggie), and this habit of disrespecting laws and law enforcement extending later to laws that are actually legitimate (i.e. against robbery, violent crime, etc.).

The matter of corrupt cops taking bribes, planting evidence, and often being more into drugs than those they arrest would be eliminated.

Organized crime would have to figure out something else to do.

Libertarians could once again respect our government if it returned to its original form.

We might stand a better chance of remaining a free nation, with a sense of community morality, and a role for a respectable Church, vs. a nation of snitches, where everything your neighbor dislikes might become illegal at any minute, and the Churches compete to see which one can get the force of government to do their 'recruiting' and moral enforcement for them.

Our kids might not assume that it is 'normal' to grow up in an Orwellian Police State with confiscatory taxes and socialism and fascism run rampant.
