Saturday morning Gunsmoke re-run marathon on TV. I love it!

WTH they still made TV like that -- No profanity, no dope references, everybody keeps their clothes on, clear who's a bad guy and who's a good guy.

But, for all that times they have to carry somebody who's been shot upstairs to doc Adam's office, why didn't Doc Adams eventually rent a ground-floor office in the course of those 600 episodes?

On my satellite TV we have an all Western channel that gets all the old TV westerns; Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Bat Masterson, Larimie, etc. I was/am always amazed at Matt Dillion's extreme accuracy; DRT shots with a quick draw from the holster. Never needs more than one shot to dispatch a bad guy (black hat)...

I've seen all 600 episodes and there's at least two in which he has to shoot twice.

Hmm, weren't they using .45 Colt 255 gr lrn (relatively soft lead alloy at that) bullets back then? A good torso hit from a round actually designed to stop horses would likely not need more than one. .

Heck, look what Yancey did with a .41 rf.

We have two channels that run Gunsmoke every weekday. One channel has them in color ( 1 hr. Long )
The other channel shows the older 1/2 hr. Black and white ones. The B&W version is on my set as I type this.
Matt's six shooter only held six shots,unlike many others that never seemed to run out of bullets. I have seen him use more than one on a bad guy several times but most often just one gets the job done.

When I started practice a couple decades ago, there was a premium to be paid if you wanted to find and rent a 'grandfathered' second story office in an old home or small office building without an elevator. The lawyers hadn't started suing everybody under the ADA act, making them put in elevators, and it was one way to reduce how many Medicare patients you would see. The theory was that they would tend to be more reluctant to take stairs versus younger patients. At that time, Medicare reimbursement was so low for primary care doctors, that we lost about $10 per visit, which tended to offset the normal $15 per visit profit you made on regular patients.

So maybe Doc Adams knew Medicare would start floundering in a hundred years or so...

I don't have cable, but fortunately a couple of the HDTV antenna channels have Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and Wanted Dead or Alive. Of course Gunsmoke is my favorite too, but the other two were pretty good westerns!

The radio shows with William Conrad playing the part of Matt Dillon are very good.

He had a wonderful voice.

They are available for download on the Internet, or at least they were.

Very enjoyable listening to and from work.

But then, that was a long time ago.

As a kid I didn't care for Wyatt Earp & especially Bat Masterson. Gotta say those shows as reruns 60 years later have not changed my mind.

It appears that Hans Conreid did some of the "voices", to perfection as always.

William Conrad did some of the narration.

It was a pleasure to listen to some of the old recordings.

They were well written and amusing even after all these years.
