I've been very, very bad... And will doubtless suffer for it
But I went to the hardware store after church (Hush. Yes, I go to church, and have actually preached on occasion. I'm not completely heathen...) to get some surface-mount conduit & electrical boxes, stopping as I always do at the pistol case to see what they got this week. Usually they have some good, and decently priced, stuff that I don't want.
The odds finally caught up to me.
Back in the day when I was shooting IPSC, then IDPA, and building 1911s, I built, and sold, my absolute favorite carry gun no less than 3 times.
I was building the equivalent of the Colt CCO, an Officer's Lower with a Bushinged Commander upper, and went through more parts guns to make "my" gun than is healthy... then sold it/them to guys with wads of cash in hand (usually after a Limited match).
But in current years, I haven't had the time, energy or money to play that game, and no one was producing such an animal, so I went without.
Enter Metro Arms... dang them.

I think it's only been out for just over a year, but I now have a NIB American Classic Compact Commander on Lay Awake. It has all the bells and whistles that I would have added (except beveled mag well) for a whopping $700 local price ($709 on Guns America). It even looks like the last one I built from Colt parts:
Can't build one for that price.
Now I've got to get ACP ammo again, because this WILL be my EODC (every other day... when not carrying the SP101) gun.
I am happily annoyed... but have to decide about whether or not to keep the Ziggy 9 for a truck gun or sell it and 2500rds of ball...

Definitely will carry better on my bod than the Zig. Double stacks are nice for OC rigs, but under a polo?... not so much.AJMD429 wrote:Looks like a nice gun...!

But for that silvery slide, non Gov't GI sights, and that new gun finish, that looks a LOT like my EDC... a Colt CC in blued steel with a beavertail safety and extended slide release... it would have an extended safety but they interfere with the holster!

Which part of the sig or other double stack is too much for under the shirt that the 1911 is better at?Old Ironsights wrote:Definitely will carry better on my bod than the Zig. Double stacks are nice for OC rigs, but under a polo?... not so much.AJMD429 wrote:Looks like a nice gun...!
When comparing side by side, I was surprised that the slide of a g-19 was slightly thicker than a 1911 (about 1/10 inch), but the grip was noticeably thinner than factory G I grips on the 1911 (g-19 1.155" vs 1911 1.323").
The main thing about the g vs the 1911 was the edges of the g are squarish, the 1911 edges are more rounded off.

That looks like quite a decent 1911 for the money. I'll be curious to see if your opinion of it is as good as the review you linked.

Re: I've been very, very bad... And will doubtless suffer fo
It's the squarish vs roundish and how the grip "pockets" between my hip and ribs. Easier to do with a 1911, especially with thin scales. Also, 1911s sit deeper into an IWB than my Glocks or Zig do - again, better "hip to rib" fit than a high ride.Malamute wrote:Which part of the sig or other double stack is too much for under the shirt that the 1911 is better at?Old Ironsights wrote:Definitely will carry better on my bod than the Zig. Now, On Belt retention holster or Off Body? 8 to one, 16 to the other...
But for EDC I like IWB.

I really like the that combination of a commander slide with officer frame. Always made sense to me. When Colt came out with their Wiley Clapp CCO, I bought one and love. Nearly ideal as a edc for me. But I've got a bit more in mine than you do.
