Havin' a Hog Killin' Tomorrow!

Post by 20cows »

The Boy and I set out the homemade hog trap a while back and hadn't had much luck. We started with it near the creek and somethig was BIG enough to hit the trip wire one foot off the ground and SMALL enough to go through the 4x4 openings in the cage (I vote for a skunk).

Last Saturday we moved it out to the middle of an open grass pasture and spread a trail of bait to the nearest game trail. I have seen hogs cross the place near here.

Every day the trap sat unmolested until today.

I figure they are in the 50 pound range.

They were laying down in the cage like puppy dogs until I walked within about ten feet and then one tried to rush me through the wire. They are aggressive little dudes.

We had church choir practice tonight (I'm the director), so we water soaked some dog food and pitched it in the trap with them for tonight. I figure they'll keep.

I think I'm going to turn that job over to The Boy and his .30-30 lite.

Down here we call that a piney woods rooter. The long nose is the give away.

That's usually good lean meat.

Too bad you couldn't pen them up and corn feed em for a month or so.

Could just about smoke one of them whole.

I'd buy a few bags of corn and fatten 'em up for a while.

Little oinkers like that ain't hardly worth enduring the smell of dressin' 'em out.

:)
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

The little ones can be the best eaters unless you want bacon.
Once I skinned one out ,rented a big rottiserie from a party
rental place. If skinned its best to wrap it in non galvanized chicken
wire to hold it together.180 lbs. of charcoal and a pile of oak,
10 hours of slow turning I fed a party of 60.
HAPPY EATING!!!!!
