OT for AH1 Cobra pilots
When I was at the rifle range last week I got to see one of the new AH1 Zulu models flying around. Those things sound weird with the 4 blade rotor and the turbines are quieter. Looked cool though the stub wings are longer and the engine exhuast is flatend and fan shapped. They have have come along way from the single turbine 2 blade rotor of the Vietnam era birds.

That may be but I would rather see a Cobra on station when all heck breaks loose. Just some thing about a grey bird with the word Marines painted on the side.El Mac wrote:...but it still isn't an AH-64D Longbow.

JR. Both the boys would agree that the Cobra is a beautiful sight. But the oldest was in a bad spot in Afghanistan. Basically below the bad guys and they couldn't get any effective fire on them. A couple of Army Apaches were vectored in. They unloaded on the top of the hill. Problem solved. They pretty much agree with what I obsereved many years ago. If you're stuck, and it looks bad, it doesn't matter if its a Marine, Army, Navy, or Air Force aircraft, or for that matter naval gunfire, it's all beautiful.

Even if it is... French? Technically "friendly", but probably inefficient as all get-out!JReed wrote:Yep when the stuff hits the fan it don't matter what it is as long as its friendly.jeepnik wrote:JR. Many French soldiers were very brave and stuck to their duty, it was most often their civilian governments that did them in, one way or another.

Just ribbing, Hobie. My uncle - the one who fought with the 29th at D-Day, still goes back to northern France once every few years. The locals are very appreciative. They have never forgotten who liberated them.Hobie wrote:Many French soldiers were very brave and stuck to their duty, it was most often their civilian governments that did them in, one way or another.
The current leadership in France is a breadth of fresh air. And amazingly, the French agreed with the US that more NATO troops are needed in Afghanistan. The Germans, Canadians, and Italians did not agree...
