Marlin 1894SS 44 Mag Ltd with S&W 3" Model 629-1.

The 1895SS is one HECK of a sweet handling levergun. Shoots very weel, but the light-gathering sights are a bit large and block small targets at distances. Still, it's one of the best levergun purchases I've made. Limited edition of 300-some guns or not, this one's not a safe queen.

The 3" 629 is a.k.a. "The Pocket Flamethrower."

I like the wood on the Marlin. Thats a nice combination of wood and stainless. is the 'Smith a "Backpacker"? (Didn't I ask you that at the gunshow?) My son has one like that and it is surprisingly accurate out to 200 meters----------------Sixgun

The little Williams receiver sight works great on mine, with the aperture removed so it is a "ghost ring" - mine has a gold bead front that is about the size of a quart mason jar at 100 yards, and easy to center in the large aperture. I've gotten used to the "ghost ring" mode so much I really don't ever plan to put in the aperture again. That helps visibility greatly.

I wonder what economic situation causes these Pennsylvanians to "cling" to short barreled stainless steel? Maybe he paid to much in AMT this year or something. Anyway, I'm sure it's economic and it's certainly "clingy" ... Barack says so.

Great combo Noah! I bet after a month solid of political commercials hitting your "clingy" state hard, you about ready to put those guns to use!!!

You know, IMO Obama was spot-on with his comments.

There ARE a lot of Pennsylvanians bitter about the economy, energy prices, the Iraq war, and the lack of leadership and results out of both Harrisburg and Washington, DC. If it helps to spend a little more time at the range, we'll do it.

As for the combo, I plan to replace the day-glo red front sight and the green rear sights on the Marlin with an ivory front bead and a ghost ring rear. There's too much metal surrounding the day-glo elements in the current sights.

I'm not sure if the 629-1 is a "Backpacker" or not, but I do know it is a Lew Horton special run of some description.

And I dodged AMT this year, but took a hard hit last year.

I had a 624 Lew Horton 44 Special that was an excellent camp gun.
Looked just like that with custom grips. It was a nice companion to
my 629 Backpacker with Pachmyers (don't remember if it's 3 or 4
inch barrel). Had to say goodbye to them 7 yrs ago.

And I like that rifle as well!
