POLITICS - Protest letter to Wal Mart - UPDATE

Post by crs »

The following is a protest letter to Walmart berating them about the recent sell out to Mike Bloomberg of NYC.
Sterling Burnett works for the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), a conservative think tank. Sterling is a hunting friend of mine and gave me permission to post his letter here on the forum.

My name is Sterling Burnett. I have been a loyal Wal-Mart customer, but no more. When Wal-Mart's merchandise became dominated by Chinese goods, I continued shopping there. When they removed firearms from most of my local stores I still shopped there -- ammo and outdoor clothes were still cheaper or at least competitive and Wal-Mart was convenient. My wife and I have shopped at Wal-Mart for toys, hardware, groceries and auto repair but no more. Your decision to treat lawful gun purchasers as criminals -- taping them, holding information on traces even when you don't, indeed can't, know whether the purchaser is involved in any crime (much less convicted by a jury of his/her peers) and then the audacity to decide on your own whether or not to sell firearms to people who have purchased in the past, but whose guns resulted in a trace (not necessarily a crime but a trace). Teaming up with the most abusive Mayor in the country -- a man who shows no respect for the law or the constitution -- and who has been no friend of Wal-Mart in the past (he and his ilk regularly fight the siting of new Wal-Mart stores in their metropolitan areas) is outrageous and shows a total lack of respect for the views and rights of your core customer base. Neither I, nor my wife, nor my children will ever shop at a Wal-Mart store again.

I can buy my firearms, ammunition and outdoor sports gear and clothing at sporting goods shops and I can certainly by my other goods (groceries, hardware, gardening supplies) elsewhere. I may or may not pay more for these goods but at least I will not be supporting a store that treats me as if I were under suspicion of a crime or, simply because I wish to purchase a gun, a criminal in waiting. I won't be providing money to a corporation actively working to undermine my freedoms, under the guise of working with the government to enhance collective security -- a claim that has always been the cloak for tyranny, but which the founders of this country warned us about.

This policy crosses a line. Sam Walton is turning over in his grave.

Sincerely,

I haven't shopped at WallyWorld since they began their Scortched Earth policy olf leaving huge, unleasable (because on non-compete clauses) vacant buildings cluttering the landscape while razing good farmland for their latest "super center".

That's more criminal IMO than anything else they do.

I too have started shopping elsewhere. It may cost me in my pocket book but oh well. I'd rather not support communist China or their kind (Wal-Mart).

Here's something that might shed more light on the topic.

April 15, 2008
According to the AP:

Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest seller of firearms, announced Monday it will toughen rules for gun sales, from storing video of purchases to creating an internal log of which guns they sell that are later used in crimes.

First they advocated socialized healthcare. Now they want to expand their spying on customers. Sounds like a good reason to avoid shopping at Wally World.

Update - Sterling has already received a phone call from Walmart :D , trying to appease him, but that is not easy and was not successful.
It is interesting to see how quickly they reacted to a well written "goodbye " letter!
Feel free to adapt his letter if you wish to send your own!

It is people like CRS, who take the time to unload their thoughts, and share info instead of just complaining to the next door neighbor or the wife, that can make a difference in this fight we are in. Thanks CRS, this was a constructive and fact filled letter that contains the feelings of many of us. My trips to Wal-Mart just ended too. I sent Robson Walton a letter a few years ago, complimenting him and his company for inventorying such a nice supply of ammo, guns, accessories, in their Salina, Ks. store. Told him how helpful this was to week-end hunters who ran out of supplies and what-not who needed a store well stocked on week-ends to be able keep on with their sport of hunting or shooting. I Told him how knowledgeable I felt his sports dept mgr. was, and helpful. I never got any reply. But this deal with Bloomberg is about as bad as the NRA cozying up with Schumer and McCarthy. When is someone going to tell Bloomberg to take a trip to hell? Bruce

Boy Poor old Wally World. can't get a break. . My Daughter and Son in Law live in a small town and when He was let go from his "temporary" manufacturing job the only place to work was Wallmart :D . He works in the sporting goods department and they still sell guns.
He was driving His truck on bald tires for months and couldn't afford tires.even though He works about 75' from the automotive dept. less than $9.00 an hour 32 hours a week.  .
It was up to me to send My daughter the money for new tires. All this from the largest employer on the planet. Wallmart Cares. Up Theirs. .Jim. Here is their own page.

That's exactly what they did here. :x I've always hated fighting the crowds at China Mart and this new policy gives me the final boost to stop spending any money there period.

I do like the China Mart stuff. I wonder... that same Kraft American cheese my local grocery store wants $4.75 for, that Wal-mart sells for $2.75.. is that made in China too? Should I not buy that as well?

Though I won't shop there, there IS a way to fight them while still "shopping" - YOU JUST HAVE TO PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION AND DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST...

Find what they are selling as "loss leaders" - i.e. the stuff that they make ZERO to NEGATIVE profit on that they use to suck people in.

Buy ONLY their loss leaders. NOTHING MORE.

Make it so every time you set foot in their door it COSTS them money.

It's a pain, but can be both financially and emotionally rewarding...

Oh,and if you want inexpensive food - don't buy name brands. In fact, if possible, shop at ALDI.

The wife & I eat on an average of $35/wk groceries by shopping there... and we still buy pizzas.

Sounds like it is more than just Chinese-produced goods they are "selling" to the public...

+2 My wife loves Aldi's - great bargins. She is old-fashioned; cuts coupons, and will grocery shop at 3-5 stores each week getting the best deal. Our grocery bill this week was $66, but would have been over $100 if it had not been for the coupons and sales she used/took advantage of.

Hitting Wally World for the loss leaders alone will hurt them where it counts!
