rossi m65

Post by kooz »

I have a Rossi model 65 and doesn't like to feed 270SAA bullets as they are a little to long. Is it possible to get these to feed ? something that can be modified on the gun to make it accept longer bullets?

Kooz,

The answer to your question is absolutely yes. I had a Rossi 65 which is just their own model number for the 92 copy and it would not feed anything when new. Not even factory ammo. So I sent it off to M&M Gunsmithing and had him fix it. I also sent some dummy rounds consisting of the 265gr Keith bullet as cast by Beartooth bullets for him to adjust the rifle to. These bullets are the same basic bullet as the 270SAA.
When it came back it would feed anything not longer than the Keith loads.

I'd suggest contacting our own Nate Kiowa Jones. He's a Rossi 92 specialist. http://www.stevesgunz.com/

Steve,

The 270SAA is the RCBS heavy Keith SWC.

They usually weigh out a bit heavy when cast from wheel weights.

Generally speaking SWC's of any kind are a stuff shoot through a levergun. The ammo of the time was all pretty much RNFP. A 92 can be tweeked a bit but there's no way to say it will run consistant with SWC.
All our leverguns are length and bullet shape sensitive to some degree. Like semi-auto handguns, they can be picky about what they will run and the faster we try to go with them the more these problem tend to show up.

The first thing to do is try seating the longer or deeper. Just because a lead bullet has a crimp groove, that doesn't mean you have to use it. You can seat the bullet out long and crimp right into the side of the lead.
