Fishersville, VA Gun Show, good for Levergun Lovers

Post by Hobie »

Well, it has some ammo, a few reloading supplies, some good (and a bunch of not-so-good) knives, and the usual dealers in brand new guns but there are a LOT of antique leveractions! Wow. Well, WOW for around here. In that regard it is even better than the last show at Rockingham Fairgrounds. Many Winchester 1873s, Marlins, a Mossberg 472 or two, Winchesters from 1866 to closing of the factory, one 1876 .45-60, a Marlin 1895 .40-82, and more. However, only one Savage 99 today.

Yes, a straight grip .300 Savage with SN over 1,000,000, sliding safety on the trigger guard, but not D&T for the tang peep and not in what I'd call $600 condition... Like I have $600...

I found a new local dealer! That's always good news.
Sincerely,

Hobie

Hobie, do you recall the asking on the '95 Marlin and did it sell while you were there?

It did NOT sell while I was there. IIRC the price was $1175 and the butt plate, although there (mostly) was broken. The rest of the gun was just beautiful and had a Lyman #2. I was surprised it was in .40-82 and checked that. The guy is a collector and he did not have a card (I asked). He also had some Winchesters.

I also saw a Marlin 92 .32. They asked me to step back from the table (something about drool on their guns) and they wanted $1100 for that gun. At least that was what was on the tag.

I didn't buy a thing though...

Hobie

The shows here near Charlotte never seem to have a lot of lever-actions. In fact, the couple regular shows are starting to go down hill a bit. Not enough "old" guns, not enough reloading supplies, too much plastic and non-gun related junk... :?

YK,

That's been the general run of things around here but C&E has really stepped up the standards. One reason they can attract good sellers is due to the quality of customer service. The previous promoter failed to deal properly with the dealers.

Hobie -

All the good dealers must be only going to the Virginia shows because the C&E ones here have gone downhill hard and fast since they switched locations from the Metrolina Marketplace to the Merchandise Mart...

Glad to hear that the C&E shows are attracted good vendors elsewhere. When I lived in mid-Michigan for 8 years we only had one gun show per year. It was huge - but just the one. When I moved to Charlotte almost 12 years ago I got spoiled very fast by the C&E shows - for a while they were every other month!
